The Vintage Snowmobile Club in Marion, MI put on a excellent race, show and swap meet. Second annual for them and had a sell out crowd. Lots of racers showed, there were a few Rupps, one came all the way down from Manistique Mi. (in the UP) with a 340 3D. He ran in the open class, walked away for three laps then there was that funny smell and sized it in front of the grand stand, what a shame he was doing so well! I ran a Sport 295 in the stock 340 class and took a forth place (couldn't turn in the corners (1/2 mile flat ice track). My first time at oval racing, so I was quite pleased. Looking forward to next year. If you live in the area, keep it in mind for next year!!
keep it up you,ll get better everybody has to start some where , you have to just keep tuning on , its real neat about the 3 d ,,that should give you something to shoot at i am to old to do the circle stuff, i can still get it in a drag race though
Hey Daniel, I made the trip to Marion Saturday with my dad we had a great time.We saw Troy Smith's 72 Nitro 340, 74 Nitro II, and his 76 Nitro all very nice. A lot of other great sleds too . My dad took some pics. I think there's one of your sled on the track just before the race. I'll post some pics when I get his camera.
BeatUpRupp: What's the best way to remove skis on 73 Nitro? I though removing the bolt through the spindle and shock would be easiest ... but it's very stuck

365rec: I had a difficult ski to remove also. I ended up using my grinder cutthe outside head off then a tapped with air hammer to get a lttle more movement.Add last splach of PB Blaster. then added 3 washers to the back side of the nut then started to tighten POP

lemans1955: What he said, had one stuck in my 73 American, cut the bolt head off, let it soak overnight in BP Blaster, then Heated the crap out of it. It only took about 500 hits with a hammer and die to get it out after that.

lemans1955: I guess if I really wanted to I could have taken the spindle off the sled and machined it out. But I'm stubborn like that lol

365rec: I have a bare chassis on the Alouette. When Repair the forward member for rust decay. Is it better to cut and weld in new or add metal over top reinforcing the weak area?
Jan 12, 2014 12:43:57 GMT -6
ruppluver: Any area that is rusting or decayed, will not be reinforced by adding new metal over the top.Actually it will keep rusting by leaving the old metal in.Cut out the bad,put in new.

jimgrandmi: I have been to the Lakeview MI Winterfest. The show is right on the main street, blocked off for sleds! Too Cool. The show is good and there are vintage oval races on the Tamarack Lack sponsored by BEVRA.
