I have pair of 71SR pipes that it looks like I will never get to that I would sell. These are not NOS but remakes by Loren Marchant off a set of originals. New never installed. Joe
That didn't take long, pipes are spoken for. Joe

Theses pipes were used on some factory 72 mods. Of course Genes appear to be different.

Cut the 71 pipes off at the parallel section and weld on the new cones. Also included were gasoline Tillotsons. The bulletin suggested welding the crank pins, and clutch tuning for higher RPM.

Good info mark. What gas tillotsons did the kit have? 105b ?

That post is all I can remember,my Uncle came home from Toronto with everything in a box. That 440SR lasted 2 minutes after it was converted, the owner did his own crank welding. He was a welder by trade, knew nothing about truing a crank. Bang! I think one of those gas Tilly's ended up on my brother's 71 fanner, I'll look for it.

Have you looked to see if a 76 header(for the liquids) will work. I have found that if you have the outer shieve turned off the 76 style header they will match up with a lot of other exhaust applications. Just a thought. Joe

I had a NOS pair of spun pipes that i traded away a couple years back. They are very easily identified, the literally look like they were spun on a lathe, if you ran your fingernail down the sides of them you would feel all the little ribs. That pipe you have a pic of looks like it was about 3 different pipes slapped together to make one. kinda ugly.

The front half is a mess, everything after the chalk line is the updated-for-72 section I'm talking about. Yes it has what looks like lathe cuts on it so it was "spun". Can anyone describe how spun pipes were made?

This was recently talked about on vintage sleds and that's where this came from.
"You would take a round piece of sheet metal ,attach in a lathe spin at high speed and push on it with a tool commonly (wood) from the center out on to a mold made of wood or other material creating a cone it's ends are cut as needed and welded into a chamber. This is how brass lamps are comonly made."

Those grooves in the metal must be from a wheel, like a glass cutter.
