Okay so I've been slowly putting my 74-76 nitro II/ Rally back together. Everything is almost done but I'm still running into nagging issues with my track conversion. I am using the stock skid with a 75 f/a or rear swing arm. The track I am using is a late 80's early 90's polaris Indy track with the inner style drive lugs. I've read plenty of threads that say this is a great combo and nobody has had any real issues, at least not like this one. My drive lugs are hitting the front cross member of the skid, now I have a modified Axel and wheel assembly that bolts into place on the front of the skid but I'm still not sure if that will keep the lugs from hitting. Has anybody else had this issue? What was your solution? Should I just take the skid back out and modify the crossmember, or is there a simpler solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure that the other conversions around here used the rupp skid. I think most of us swapped out the skid to another brand. Using the Rupp drivers should be A Ok but I'm not sure about the skid interference. Maybe the polaris tracks used a taller drive lug than the rupp tracks? Have some pictures to make sure I'm thinking about this right?

The Rupp lugs are in a different location, on the outside of the track windows and skid, the Polaris track has them inside the skid and windows. I had to relocate the drive cogs.

I've read a few that have used the Rupp skid. Went all the way back to 2009 in the archives.

Are you trying to bolt the suspension in the stock holes on the tunnel ?? I think that you will have to move the suspension back a little. If I remember right the Polaris track is a little longer than a Rupp track. I'm going to the shop later tonight and will look at my dad's and bro's change overs.

Pretty sure the both tracks are 121" the only difference is the width, Rupp track was 17" wide Polaris track is 15". It fits perfectly as far as length and tension are concerned.

And yes the holes are the stock mounting position.

Are you using that plate that slips over the rails ?? If so you can't use that. Use a shaft or make one that bolts between the rails. If it is still close or hitting move it back a couple inches on the rails.

Do you have pictures? I run Merc Tracks in our Nitro IIs had the same problem in one of them. Where are your wedges located under your springs? Are you only running one idler wheel to hold track off rear springs or two? Changed our Nitro FA from a Rupp to a polaris to a R track with no issues used FA skid.

The whole skid is coming out tomorrow for a complete rethink. I am also installing the optional Rupp axle with wheels up front on the skid. I modified the shaft to move the wheels in further. I am running the plate on the front of the skid, that is what the lugs are hitting. Looks like I will be building a new crossmeber to replace that tomorrow. I am running a f/a rear swingarm with only one wheel in the middle. My wedges are big aluminum ones, about 1/4 inch width on the fat side I will try and get some pics on here. Thanks for all the help guys!

You will have to run the shaft with the anti stab wheels on the front of the skid. You can even run full size bogie wheels up there to make sure nothing hits. Just make sure they are lined up to miss the lugs and drivers. Joe

Mike I am not gonna make it up there today, sleds need too much TLC! I want to get everything fixed and running well again so probably next weekend and Tue weekend after that.I really wanted to go up today just no time to get everything done.

The wheels I am using for the anti stab are full sized bogies. I am still either going to cut some out of the front plate or make something else up.

I must be miss understanding something here. If you use shaft and wheels on the front of the rails plate will not be there. What 'plate' are you talking about the lugs hitting? Joe

the mid 90's tracks are 121, the same as the rupp track. you can use all your stock mounting holes if you are using the original rupp skid. if you are using 74-75 nitro skid there is a few things you can do. the front leaf spring cross bar turn that around, that will raise your skid in the front and will miss the lugs. also run the front shaft with the wheel or wheels. do not use that front brace that holds the rails together. the best skid to use is a 76-78 nitro or 76 rally rail. those rails curve up allot more in the front than the 74-75 rail. the 76 to 78 rail will not hit the lugs. the 74-75 rail will work you just have to work with to make it work. hope this helps. any questions, give a call. I have done so many of these already and came across all kinds of does and dont's, lol.....

I have never done a conversion to a Polaris track but have done 2 conversions to brand new Camoplast Durasport tracks. All I had to do was knock off the bogie supports on the swing arm and move them each out 3/16"... worked like a dream!
I don't know about the 76-78 rails but I do know the 75's curved a lot more than the 74's... they are pretty much junk in my book.

I'm not quite sure what year skid I have, this sled is more like a collection of parts thrown together to make one sled. I think the skid may be 74 judging by the shallow curve of the rails. I'll try and get some pics up here tomorrow.

Krazy, the wheels and shaft do not go in the very front of the skid, the plate is on the front, the about 4" back is where the shaft and wheels were mounted. So it has both the front plate and anti stab wheels on the skid.

The axle,, or anti stab kit is supposed to take place of the steel bar in front.
