Hey Josh: Pics were VERY helpful! The toughest one was the headlight wire from the PC board - I couldn't remember where it went to get under the engine all the way up front, but your pics showed me the way!!! I had thought it ran down the RH inner frame rail, but I couldn't figure out how to keep it away from the brake rotor. It figures, Rupp just used a zip tie to hold it up out of the way. Not a real neat factory wiring job, but the PC board was a first and was very handy in the day. Thanks again for the pics, they helped a lot. If you could take a look at the belly pan inside, I think on the originals there was a fiberglass loop cast into the belly to tie the headlight wire to keep it from hitting the exhaust - does your Nitro have that? Let me know and if you can get some shots of the underhood front when you get a chance that would help as well - my NOS replacement pan didn;t have the loop on it. Thanks for the help, nice to know someone with an original sled, it is a very valuable resource. Wig

Yes it does have the spring holding the wire back when closing the hood. You should be able to fiberglass your old loops to the panels. I don't think that the headlight wire goes to the right. It runs down the lower left panel with the loops. I can take some pics tomorrow. And see if I can find out exactly where the wire runs.

Here is an update: Belly pans are all riveted in with stainless steel rivets!!! Headlight has been installed on the NOS hood: New Bumper almost installed - what a B*TCH !! Had to re-bend the whole thing to align it with the body panels: And the dash - brand new NOS gages, ZERO miles Speedo, new Temp and Tach: Now to the MOTOR - dirty and needs to be dusted off, but basically all ready to go in. Lotsa bucks in this baby - porting, pistons, reeds, seals, coil, even found a NOS set of the original Bosch plug caps that came on the sled: That's it for now, should be ready to go in another week or two!! ;D ;D ;D Wig

Al: Yes, this is the sled I will be bringing to your house. And yes, I will absolutely strangle you if you so much as put a fingerprint on it. That said, if you feed me first, I will let you drive it, as long as you promise not to hit any deer with it, and you lock up the gold paint first. ;D This will give you a chance to ride a REAL man's sled. I'm kind of afraid of that 44 Sprint with the pipes, tho, I know those Kohlers ran nice without mods, they flew with them!! Wig

I was just looking at what the engine looked like when I first took shots of it prior to the restoration. Quite a difference, I would say! BEFORE: AFTER:

What do you need? I used to play with those Kohler fans a little when I had my Nitro II, easy to make them run nice but the jetting is critical. Don't lean that thing up too much or the first blast of cold air you get out there in Buffalo will cook it, unless you need a set of piston-shaped ashtrays for your garage! Wig

Well, I outdid myself. I have a friend that was big into Rupps way back in the day, he still has a ton of parts laying around that he would never sell. I was talking to him the other day and mentioned that I couldn't find a NOS set of rubber running board treads for my Nitro anywhere. I guess he felt sorry for me because he went into his shed, dug around for a few minutes and came out and handed me these: They still have the paper backing on them, although the glue has long lost it's stickiness. I was shocked, very pleased and extremely happy. Asked him how much, he said "NO CHARGE" Holy crap, I couldn't believe it. Anyway, I will be installing them on my Nitro, actually hate to use them because they are probably one of the last set of NOS ones in the country. All I can tell you is that I am ONE HAPPY GUY!!! Now all I have to do is convince him to give me those brand new 440 liquid engines he has in that shed of his (he has several of them)!!! Wig

Where did you say this shed was I don't know what I need for my kohler . I don't have out of hole response that I use to when I raced . I have needle clip all the way at bottom. Only way it runs ok other then that it will not even move . As soon as RPM goes up it lights up. Haven't been able to go more then my back lawn yet . It should pull hard enough so i have trouble stopping especially without any brakes. I replaced o ring . That use to be a problem a midrange when I raced. I think I just need to clean clutches. Driven in #4 hole . That should not matter on grass use to run in 5 or 6 Don't know . If it starts backfiring Ill go back up to 270 0r more in jets . What do you think . Or can anyone else help. Except to tell me Iam an idiot

Looking great !!!! Wish I still had a NOS hex clutch. I sold it to a guy in canada. Does that clutch have the right weights , ramps and spring for the 77 Nitro ? If not you might want to change it. You'll be disappointed otherwise. Keep up the great work !!!!
