Patience,guys. I've wanted to build something with 4 T-Cat motors, even-firing like a V12 2 stroke that Rolls Royce worked at during WW II. It was called "Crecy" at the time, but the plug was pulled when jets became more promising. It would be tough link up 4 triples to even fire and be dependable,too. I bought a bunch of Ford-Yamaha DOHC 3.4 liter stuff in the last few years, motors from the Taurus SHO V8. All aluminum, light weight.32 valves, the camshafts are hollow,to save weight Weird cause they're a narrower 60 degree V instead of the normal 90 degrees. Narrow is needed to make this fit. In the 60's, an outfit in England named BRM built a Grand Prix car with a supercharged V16 1500cc engine . Anyways, one example survives and it is owned by Nick Mason. He also owns a 3-12 Ferrari driven and made famous by Gilles Villeneuve. Josh might know who Nick Mason is. I have an audio CD of that BRM car from the Goodwood vintage race track in England. So the Rupp Super SnoSport had a Ford DOHC Cosworth. Why not two DOHC Ford V8's and call it Super SnoSport II. Right now its a big dream but it can be done. Wish me luck.

Ha! I know the feeling. Seems like I never finish anything. Sometimes instead of working on sleds I'll pull up a chair and just look at them. Just happy to have it!

BRM made some fantastic cars, don't forget the Coventry Climax H-16 3 liter motor that BRM used in 1967. That was basically two of thier DOHC 1.5 Liter v-8s turned on thier sides with crankshafts joined in the middle.

Nick Mason also used to race in Group C durring the 80's he raced at LeMans a couple of times.

Oh and the there more than one BRM v-16, the Donnington collection owns one I believe, that's a great museum to go to if you ever get the chance!

The sno sport used a "normal" ford pushrod v-8 that was built for drag racing, the ford cosworth dfv was not built until 1967 and at that time was only used by the lotus F1 team as they and ford payed cosworth to develop it for them, it was not released as a customer version until 1968.

Correct me if I'm wrong. The motor Mick Rupp used in the Super SnoSport is similar to the Ford motors used in the Lotus cars raced at Indy by Jim Clark and Jacky Stewart.

I remember a story,maybe 20 years ago. AJ Foyt had a "garage sale". The one thing that I remember is a ski boat with a SOHC 427. There was a bunch of Indianapolis stuff for sale,too. AJ Foyt's garage sale, think about that one.

That would be an indy only motor developed by Dan Gurney's team at AAR I believe, I don't think it was a DOHC though. It eventually was developed into the powerplant for AJ Foyts Coyote cars.

Based on past (non)showings, I assume you will need a lot more than luck. Dreams are good! I measured an SHO V8 this morning. 22" long, 22" wide,20" tall. Too wide to use the mounting plate for the Merc outboards. There's not enough room to mount the motors inline. I can make a similar plate, just wider. When the crops are in, I'll get into this and post pictures and brainstorm with you guys. I have an idea to use sled style TC's instead of the cogged belt drive. I think the motors can be sync'ed together at the crank nose.

And now for a weird twist, the same chassis that Indy motor was put in was also used by team lotus in the 1966 F1 season but instead of the ford Indy motor they used the BRM/ Coventry Climax H-16 as the ford cosworth was still being developed. This Frankenstein cars one and only win was at the US GP in Watkins Glen. Not to long ago I had the pleasure of meeting an 80 something year old ex Rupp dealer in Watkins Glen, he sold a friend of mine his last 3 sleds and parts. Not exactly 6 degrees of separation but a interesting connection.

I always thought it was a 428 with the Gurney Eagle heads. Isn't the Coswell a dohc motor (4 cams)?

Yes the cosworth DFV was DOHC, I think you are right about the Indy motor.

In the SnoPro slides (pictures) I dug up was a bunch of pictures I took at Watkins Glen the same year. Mostly the Ferrari's of Clay Regazzoni and Niki Lauda. On my way to pick up Quick Trick, I drove by Watkins Glen.

The movie "Rush" about Niki Lauda was good. I thought it was hilarious after he went to work for Ferrari and test drove their car, then proceeded to tell them what a pile of crap it was.... then fixed it!!!
