Hi Guys, i bve been trying to get the Brute to Run....no luck yet.
Got Spark, got lots of Compression (fresh rebuild before i bought it).
It kicks and fires a bit which fuel squirted inthe cyl.
When im pulling it over I dont see the fuel getting sucked up the fuel line from the tank (the lines are correctly attached to the pump). Is there any oddities withthese fuel pumps?
That being said, i attached seperate lines tot he carbs and filled the Float Bowls to Try that... nada
It will kick anf fire a bit, Mag side Header pipe gets warm (pto side not) and shows no signs at all of wanting to run.
Any tricks with Timing these sleds...lke i said, no idea what was done timing wise before i got it... it it pretty much pre set of do you have to adjust a stator plate ?

I don't know the engine or what type of fuel pump is in your Alouette but you should see the fuel pull thru. If not there's not enough gas reaching the pickup tube, there's blockage in the lines or pump, bad pump diaphrams, air leak in the lines or around the clamps, or the engine base has bad seals and can't create enough vacuum (or pulses to operated the pump). If it has drain plugs for the base make sure they are screwed in.
Hope you find the problem and keep us updated.
Hopefully someone will add some input on timing. That's been the source of many of my problems.

Did you rebuild the pump? If so then it is either blockage or air leak like F/A Nitro said. Did you change O ring and gasket where it bolts to crank case? Just a thought.

hi guys, motor/power plant (340 Xenoa L/C) was re built etc before i got it...no idea on the pump).
I suspect your correct on your points re not pulling fuel from the tank....however
I did fill the carbs/bowl's (pulled the fuel lines off, put an independent feeder line on and poured fuel in till they were full) ... this way i got the Mag side to Burp...repeatedly...but that was it.
Are the O-rings available for these fuel pumps...i imagine its in MIC pump rebuild kit...my RV's have Mic's but they dont fit directly on the Crank Case they have a vaccume hose.
likely a good idea to rebuild the pump to be sure.
ill check the Crank Case Drain plugs too (if it has them)
all the gas lines are new, Carbs cleaned etc... i may need to pull 'em off again since that was all done Pre Purchase.

Dave,
Just a thought....... When i was trying to start my sled , I was on a stumper as well. I pulled my plugs to see if there was spark. There was. I tried numerous things and nothing worked. I put a different set of plugs in and it fired. have you tried a new set. At least thes is not time consuming. The set i had in would fire when it was not in the cylinder but, must not have when installed and under compression. By the way i would also get some kick but would not run. Dave

good point, ive got the patience of a saint when it comes to the bulk of the resto work, but zero when it comes to the sled not starting i spent more time pulling it over last night than i care to remember, and i should do more of the basic problem elimination...like new plugs...pump kit etc... instead i pull pull pull..."maybe this time, no..this time...no...this time...no this.... damn sled..." thanks Dave...will look at the basics again before i take the boots to it

The one problem that I have not seen discussed was.... Did you change the check valve in the tank as it may have varnished up, it always does when sitting especially with the fuels of today.

Dave, there is nothing special about the fuel pump, internally it is same as your RV. The O ring can probably be matched up at a local automotive supply store.

Now check the tank vent tube to see if the tip-over check valve is stuck. Unhooking the line from the tank itself should give you an indication. Just like you said "like putting your thumb on a straw full of pop". If the line or valve is plugged or stuck it prevents air from flowing into the tank thus preventing gas from being sucked into the carbs.
