The 440 in the video just looks like a guy having fun with his new sled. I'll bring my camera.... I had the honor of racing Larrys liquid Twister against my 440 F/A back in '07 at Waseca. I was NEVER in the race. His sled might have been as much as 75 feet in front of me at the finish line. That was the year I jumped up into the 440 liquid stock and drew the 2 fastest sleds in the class out of 14 entries in the first heat. (Just my luck. ) I had to go up against Al Ennos '77 SRX and Larrys Twister in the very first round. It was a very humbling experience to say the least. On the way home I was ready to sell all the Rupps to get my hands on a '77 Blizzard or Super Sonic. aaarrrr........................In all seriousness there is NO Rupp stocker ever built that is going to run with either of those 2 sleds. Everybody thinks the world is 500 feet long. Run those sleds for 1/4 mile or more and they will be RUPPED. Been there done that, many, many times. ;D

No one cares about top end but how quick you can get your sled to cover 500 ft.

And, Dale, if you love racing, I'd love to see you on a 77 Blizzard! The Rotax should be unstopable. The 250 Merc won't beat a 77 Ski Doo. On the Ski Doo, the longer the race, the further everything else is behind. Even the Rupp. I only lake race sleds that have a headlight.

To me the video shows a trail twister which is a stock production sled beating up on a 71 magnum factory race sled. Hard to tell who the winner is from where the video is shot but the merc clearly has the edge from the start to way past the camera man.

The 77 blizzard in the pic is the Michigan model with lights these are more rare than the 77 blizzard without the lights. And who said a little 250 twister would beat a 77 blizzard? ? A 440 twister really has it's work cut out against a 77 blizzard. About the only way a 250 merc could possibly beat a 77 blizzard is if the blizzard was only running on 1 cylinder.

I don't know, I think the 250 Merc would get it. Mine's pretty tough. My 77 Super Sonic is so mellow I let Dad take the boy out trail riding on it! And here's some sled porn for Sloper.... Air box and all, Baby. Get yourself one of these and you'll never loose in AA again!

Hey Eddie may I ask you a couple of questions that I've been really wanting to ask you ? First .....do you own any rupps ? Second... do you even like Rupps ? These I've been wanting to ask you for a long time. I'm not being sarcastic. I just have never heard you say anything good about any Rupp !! What gives "?"

Yeah...Actually, I like going to Eagle River and watching Bill Stull run. It's good to see a Rupp out in front. I like the 71 and 73 Magnums, a 73 Magnum will hold it's own agains any 440 ever built. Look at Jay Sperry with his 440 in the WC class, I think he finished 4th the last time I was there. And don't think some of the sleds in the WC class aren't close to 1000cc. It's just rumor, but I believe if they're leanient on checking stroke, there's (was) some stroked Rotaxes and Polaris' out there.
The only reproduction parts I make are for Rupps....With some pretty exciting parts about to become available in the next few weeks! Not to mention helping in making the absolute best 71 Magnum windshields available through Jeff.
I'm having an engine made (yes, made) to try and resurrect a replica of a very famous Rupp.
If I didn't like Rupps, I wouldn't spend thousands of dollars a year on sleds and parts. I have at least one race machine for every year from 71-76. With the 74, of course, being a clone.
You got me though, my favorite sled is a 74 Cat racer, with the Moto Ski a close second. The only thing negative I have to say about Rupp is the 76 liquid just can't compete in a drag race, whether it be 300', 500', 660' or 1320'. Even though it is my favorite as far as style. Well, it about ties with a windshieldless 73.
In defense of that Magnum in that video, that thing will smoke a Trail Twister. Only the "Merc Blind" didn't see the Magnum let off and then chase the twister down. Which is no great task, it should smoke it.
And, call me crazy, but I didn't see you at Ruppfest.

Thanks man thats a little reassuring !!!! I would of been to Rupp Fest...... BUT YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I HATE THAT DRIVE !!!! I really would love to see someone put a bridge over Lake Michigan !!!!! Thats the only thing that held me back. There are quite a few other sleds I like better than Rupps also. AND NO !!!!!!!! MERCS AREN"T ONE OF THEM !!!! LOL !!!

The Magnum won the race, smartass, I was there, you'll have to believe me because I can't get any official certification from a Notary Public that I did, indeed, attend the event. This was the final for the class, not sure what the class was, but the Merc got whooped by 6-7 lengths at the end after the Rupp had to let off at the start because of losing control and caught the field and passed everyone. That was from the guy driving the Merc, who I talked with after the race. Don't know his name, and again, I can't certify through any means that I was there, other than my statement that I was and took the movie with my Kodak C875 digital camera. You'll have to settle for that. Wig Down boy down
