Opps, Lets start over. The 67 has what i would refer to a horizontal mount motor as it lays down at a angle close to the tunnel which required rotating the cylinder head 180. That is why the muffler is in your lap and carb has a special adapter. There are a lot of parts spacific to the 67. Good Find. Hope you have the chain guard. The 66 engine has a slight mounting angle also but not near as much. Dennis Berning has a 66. dc

Darren, Yes, we have the plastic chain guard (no fluid in the chain case, you have to manually lube the chain every so often), the plastic clutch guard, and the plastic (fiberglass?) muffler guard. We didn't even realize we had some of these things until we started looking through the shed. We might need your help though in locating the carbureter baffle, Not sure what they call it in the parts catalogue. We have the correct carb but not the fitting that screws to it to help keep out moisture or dirt. Anyone know where we might be able to find one? Thanks, Bob

Josh,
Sounds good to me. As long as it keeps raining, I can't get out in the fields to finish planting so that would be a good time to go through some of our other Rupp stuff. We have all the stuff in Larry's barn to go thru yet also.

[ This is awesome! I am currently working on a similar sled. Just happen to find this thread. Cool Hirth motor. Did you weld the shroud after you cut off the fan accessories?

Have you ever rode the sled for a distance at all? How cool does your motor stay?

No the most we drove it was maybe around the shop and on/off a trailor. We didnt build it for the trails. It is funny that you found the post especially with all the recent nitro 650 talk and our version of the sled. I just pulled it back in the shop on saturday. We are putting a different track and suspension under it, then hopefully fire it up and run some fresh gas thru it.

My plan is a 72 650 with same motor. Differences will be dual carb set up and we widened the front to be able to use magnum panels. I am leaning towards a set of aftermarket aluminum skis to give it a race look but they are wider and bigger for trail use. Really not sure on hood or panels. The struggle right now is finding rings for the motor. I am also unsure on the suspension. I have a good 121 track and front drivers already converted, just not sure what suspension to use. I just got the widened bulk head back this weekend. I will start the spit shine soon. Not sure how patient I am to sand this tunnel to a mirror finish. Either way it will look good. I will update with pics on another thread.
