If you do not have a lot of clips to install take your sled to your local snowmobile dealer and have them install them for you. This can be done with the track in the sled. You can purchase your own tool, Look for them online. dc

When I was looking for a tool, there wasn't one on the market that would work.A buddy made one,but now can't find it. I have plenty of Kimpex clips for the Rupp tracks.

The Rupp tool used to install track clips. Looked like a bolt cutter, with wider jaws. I still have mind, when I was a dealer!!

I once had a 73 Nitro that had a great track, but looked as if it had been stuck over a rock and spun, taking most of the clips off one side. Tried to find a clip tool, and managed to borrow a couple from local dealers, but none of them would close the clip all the way. One day I was in an auto parts store thinking of trying a huge pair of channel locks, had a clip with me and tried it, no luck! One of the guys working there took me out where they work on chains and showed me a tool they use to cut chains and close links. We tried the clip in the part of the tool that closes the links and it worked very slick. I ended up renting this tool from them for a day and installed all the missing clips very easily, and so far, none of them have come off!

Does the tool on the left work on Rupp track clips? I KNOW the one on the right doesn't work! I tried both of those tools and neither of them would close the clip enough to make it stay. The one on the right got close, but every time I gave the track a trial spin, it would spit off a few, and it would take a long time to spin that tool down with a ratchet. path 8-)finder#6

thanks sticks. Kinda hard to make out what it looks like but....... Bob Sapp said they started with a bolt cutter, made a 2 piece head that was welded on in place of the jaws for cutting. It's just a 3/8" hole, crimps the clip on the bar. Of all the track clips I've seen on the 72-73's,not one of them was round. They were flat on top, fairly flat on the sides, with the bottoms crimped hard into the rubber over the bar.

The tool is a bolt cutter, with cutters removed. Length is 24". Jaws are 1" long. Diameter for clips is a 3/8" diameter. A longer tool would be better. More leverage!!

Rupp must have used a variety of track clips. I have original Rupp, that would be flat on the top[inside of track].Mr.Sapp,says his tool is for the round clips.Hmmmmmmm.

I just stumbled into some NOS track clips and find they are flat on the inside and should stay that way if they are installed correctly. Still haven't seen here, or anywhere else, a specific tool that exists that will crimp them down tight enough to stay on. Closest thing I've seen is a chain link tool that I mentioned a while ago, but it's a little awkward to use, but does a good job closing them. path finder#6
