Just bought a 73' Nitro. Going to put a lightweight Magnum hood on it from Ruppshop. Dropping in a Sachs 340ss with a Donaldson muffler. Likely will use a Comet Duster clutch. Planning to run the HD class at Long Lake for the one lunger 100. Any thoughts/ advice? Anyone want the engine the Nitro came with?

Is it the original 'S' engine? What size? What's the compression? Where are you located?

340ss Engine has been completely rebuilt, all stock. Hopefully get some photos up tonight of sled and engine. Pretty excited. Need to find the correct HD Tilly for this engine and advice on a belt and clutching. Hints on reducing weight. How heavy were these stock Rupp seats?

Got a chance to see the Nitro tonight. Hood is too nice to use as a racer. Faded but otherwise perfect condition. Original windshield looks good too. Anyone want it? I'll need some new glass for the lateral lower panels as they are a bit rough. Seat is perfect. Again, maybe too perfect for racing. Should I use it or pick up a replacement and sell this to someone who is doing a true restoration?

So I have the 340ss Sachs. I have a choice. Use a Donaldson muffler or the stock Skiroule muffler that came with a Skiroule one lunger Sachs. No difference? Either better for power?
Use stock Rupp handle bars or cut off and weld different bars, lighter. Thoughts?

What size motor came out of it ?? We are looking for a 440 S-3. We would probably take the seat off your hands too.

If the sled was a 295- 340 Nitro you should be ok with top gear for the 340ss sachs. If it was a 400-440 it has the wrong gear,,, check on this, should be 13 tooth... Have a blast... sounds fun..

Sprintmania,
What problems did you have running the 73 nitro with a 340 Sachs ss? Hopefully I can learn a thing or two to make this one faster. What Rupp chassis engine combo did you switch to with more success?
