What size motor came out of it ?? We are looking for a 440 S-3. We would probably take the seat off your hands too. I have a 73 440s-3 if you are still looking.

Rupp 1967 to 1973 Distance between Clutch Sheave Rims is 2 1/8 inches. except on the 1971 600 and 800 magnums where it it is 10 1/2 inches center to center. I measured our 1973 nitro with the 340ss with 94 duster and it is 2 1/8 to the secondary clutch.

Ed, PM me the price of the motor and I'll let my dad know. He's never on the computer anymore since he retired. Is it possible to get it to Eagle River Vintage Weekend ?? Thanks

So have the engine in place, the clutch, and a Donaldson muffler. Having trouble fitting the header exhaust pipe to the muffler and getting things to fit. What about using a flex pipe? Can a flex pipe work or will it just kill all the power on a 340ss? I thought it was the length of the pipe that mattered , not its curves or shape (other than diameter).

On the models with the sleeve in aluminum cylinder, use 45mm diameter exhaust pipe 400mm long.Muffler number to be used is:1473026000.

Hood from Bill turned out nice. But how do I attach the windshield? Do I have to cut it to make tabs and cut holes in the hood?

Yes, had Bill paint it for me. Very light. Sled was running but I got crushed in our race. Now I need the Rupp Nation's help to make this thing fast. Gearing advice? Spring combination for the clutch? Any Sachs engine gurus close to the twin cities?

Ok, so fixing the Sachs 340ss fan since my tether cord came loose and in a one in a million shot slipped into the fan and shattered the fan.
Think I have the gear ration figured out, a big reason why things were not as fast as planned. Going to improve the pipe/exhaust a bit. Still could use any advice on clutching though.

Was working on the gearing. Opened the chaincase. What is this?

your chain tensioner, it rotates to loosen or titian, lightly with a brass punch or plastic tip hammer tap on the tab and the chain will slack if you get no results tap the the three bolts in alittle

The clutching setup you have looks more like the setup for a 440. Try this as a starting point. Primary weights should have no holes or rivets in them (Rupp pt. # 14918). Secondary spring should be in 2nd hole. Hope that helps.

Sprintmania Thanks, that helps and makes a lot of sense. I'm used to Skiroules which use a very different chain tensioner.

But . . . What is the optimal amount of tension?
