What would have happened in 72 if Rupp built the Speedway? Take the best components from both companies. Think into the years following that, especially the first year of SnoPro

I think it would have been one hell of a sled. There is a lot of 71 Magnum similarities in the Speedways.

Eventually Rupp got around to it. The 74 Nitro II,then the 75 FA, albeit still without a jackshaft The Speedway would have been a giant-killer with the 440SR in 72.

I think Speedway was the first to use a Jackshaft in all of there models.

I always liked the speedways since I first saw one pass my 40hp American one night when I was 14. I'm looking for one to build this summer. I want to widen the front and graft the 3d flares around the spindle area. I also love the raised ram air scoop on that kids that put a xenoah in one. that must be a blast to ride!

Back in 72 I saw some Speedway mod's at an OSRF race, they flew.We had no idea "Who are those guys?" Looks like the stockers had aluminum parts and the mod sleds got magnesium. Also interesting that in 74 Speedway stayed with the SS Kohler instead of the RS.

I think it would have been one hell of a sled. There is a lot of 71 Magnum similarities in the Speedways. I bought an arm load of jackshaft towers from CPC. Vern said they was Rupp. There may be some reading this thread unfamiliar with the Speedway story. The company was founded by Rupp engineers who went out on their own.Hey,Ed!!! Did you ask Mr. Rupp about how it went down?

The 440 triple may have been only one year and not to many were built.

that is the one. how does it work? like you said there is a lot of 71 magnum f/a engineering in them. I think if those guys wouldn't have left rupp, this would have been the 72 magnum with sr free airs.

I think tom earhart raced one back then. if I remember they offered some kind of different caster setup on the steering for oval racing? I think the 74 twister was designed by a former rupp engineer also, which kind of took over as speedway went away.

Did they have angled front spindle tubes like the rupps?

I'm not sure, I think it just really laid the skis over in a turn more than stock. I think maybe the black label beer sponsored one had it. they were never as successful as they should have been on ovals except for a few guys who could handle them. they seemed to be a real handful.

I asked him more about the Rupp magnums and the racing program than anything. A lot of interesting stories about Gene Bloom.

Got a call from speedway ted lastnight totally out of the blue. Might be picking up a chassis and some glass from him this summer.
