So this fall i started into vintage sled racing/collecting, I'v always liked Rupp's and loved hearing my dad talk about Rupp's back in the good days. So im kinda new to the Rupp world but far from new to snowmobiling. In my colection so far i have a 73 nitro 340 soon to be parted into a 72 chassis, 76 ? 340, and a 77 nitro 440.
You may ask "why a 73 ? 340" that will be my first question. It has all Rupp name stickers all over it, gauges, snow flap, hood, ect. Except the tunnel has brute on it Alouette bars, Alouette skis, Alouette striping on the hood. Was this a friday sled where they was like meahhhhh it will work ship it, The sled only has 600 miles so im kind of ruling out someone changing stuff after buying the sled.
So with my little story out of the way im looking for info on 102 clutch setups for the 77 nitro 440. My thoughts was a 41g notched weights with a cat yellow with green strip spring. This set up has worked well on other 440s iv built in the past with the same general physics of engine.
My other question is what is the best plug to run in them? i would like to stay NGK no champions (life long hatred of champions).
thanks for any info guys.

As far as your Allouette I believe it is a brute for sure, they were identical to the nitros except decal changes. As far as the gauges and snowflap I'm almost certain the snow flap was replaced at one point, and I the guages came that way from the factory. I could be wrong.

Why would the flap be replaced if theres no other signs of damage, or the rupp on the hood. Was there another sled that had stickers close to that? (Like just put different on it after the fact). There's not alot of info on De'vining the sled that iv found.

I mean I see there's no different in the two really but its still a puzzle.

The decal on the hood was probably put on later as well. The hood decals other than that are all correct for an allouette.

My book only goes up to 1975 all I have is fan cooled nitro plug specs, which call for a champion n19v.

I use NGK BUE plugs they are a surface gap plug, which is what Rupp originally used in there liquid cools. I know alot of people have switch to a v plugs, but I don't know what. Clint

I wondered if I could run a electrode style plug. It has the NGK FLAT style in them now.

I run electrode plugs in my other Rupps to check my mixture, once its set I switch back to surface gap. I'm sure u could run electrode plugs all the time.

With the compression being 12:1 theres no issues with the pistons high fiving the spark plugs?
