Rascal: It took more than a few beers to get it that far!!!! Wait till you see the next few steps, I will load the pics in the next couple of days.
Brandt: Without you, Bill Stull, Josh Kronstedt, Gary Weese and some others that aren't on this board, this project would have fallen on its' face long, long ago. Also a sincere posthumous thanks to Joe Valente who single-handedly kept the Rupp name alive even through the 'dark years' after the shutdown in 1978. Thanks to all of you on the board for your help and support!!!! Wig

..... One thing to note: I have seen this type of damage several times when the old styl electrode plugs are used on the liquids - stick with the surface gaps, the engineers knew what they were doing when they designed the head/cylinder/piston components.... Wig... a little clarification if you please? i.e. Which plugs are you recommending to use in the 440 L/C? Specific brand and plug #? thx/jd

Rascal: I have had the best luck with the Champion N-19V non-resistor plugs, but you can use the QN-19V or the NGK BUE plugs. They are all surface gap plugs. If you have the original Bosch metal resistor caps like I do, you should stick with the non-resistor plugs as not to have too much resistance and possibly burn out your CDI box. Wig

Josh: I kenw you would regret selling me those tracks!! Just like you're gonna regret selling me that little sled, although you know it's ending up in good hands - I can't wait to come out to God's country to pick it up!! If you want, I can bring a track or two with me, I've been hoarding them for a couple years now. I know, it's a disease. Eliot Spitzer has his call girls, I have my RUPPS!!! Best thing is, I get to ride the Rupps whenever I want after I spend a few grand on them. Eliot spent 4 grand and only got one "ride" and is lucky if he got a kiss goodbye!! I will stick with the Rupps. Wig

Found a few more progress shots I forgot to put in. At this stage I installed the NOS fiberglass parts (very hard to find - got them in the original Rupp wrappers) with small bolts so I could get the engine and pipes fit in before I riveted everything up solid - too many Nitros and Magnums out there with belly pans with holes burnt in them from poor panel alignment. There are a couple small scratches on the undersides but I decided not to paint the panels, figured they would get scratched up from riding it anyway. Also had one of the skis on, about to put the other one in place. Enjoy the pics. Note the RH panel has only one exhaust hole in it - I wonder if it was a panel for the Allouette or something. When I get ready to put in the exhaust, we'll get out the old hole saw and finish that up. This is a nice shot showing the overall look with the ski installed - drool drool drool ;D

Hey Josh - This is about the position my Apex was in last week when I crashed it. I guess I might as well get used to this view, huh? God, I hope not - that paper-thin Rupp fiberglass won't hold up very well in a flip-over. And it was really hard to find, so I am going to have to be real careful! Wig

Well, finally putting up a few more pics of progress on the Nitro. I have a bunch more pics, but they are still on an old computer and transferring them is a real pain. Anyway, here are some pics of when I had finally gotten the jackshaft assy in place, then realized that the brake rotor that I had not finished on the chaincase side did show after all - I thought nobody would see it!!! Well, disassembly time, put in another hour or two refurbishing the bad side of the rotor - as they say, life sucks, then you die!!! I will post more when I transfer them over. Wig I just can't resist putting pics of more of the NOS original parts I bought for this sled - here is the mudflap that was in the original sealed package before I took it out - I will have to touch up the white lettering as it smudged a little in the package after all those years. Oh, and lest I forget, here is yet one more shot of one of those NOS Rupp original skis - all done, NOS shocks, all new Rupp spec bolts, etc. Pics of the NOS Rupp hood coming soon!!!!
