Hey Steve, the '73 Magnum in my avatar is the sled that was at the Whiteout, but it's not mine. Bill Stull is restoring mine for me right now. I love to work on my own sleds, but I wanted this sled done by a professional. I can't wait to see the finished product!! Again, that '72 of yours is sweet!!

Cool, Bill Stull is the man out in the midwest. Thanks for the compliments on my Nitro. I went to the John Albert Vintage Show in Oriskany Falls, NY today. I entered the Nitro in the trail muscle class and took the 1st place trophy. 109 sleds registered. Great sleds there like Sam Polito's King Kats and EXT's. There was and awesome snocoupe and a pristine 250 Z from Brian Dorouty from Moravia who won best featured sled and took home a 64" tall trophy! The winner of best of show was not one of the king kats or Boss Kats, but a guy who has restored all 4 models of the Sears and Robuck line, that Polaris built for Sears. He took the other 64" tall trophy with one of those. So cool.

Oh, and the best part, finally there was enough snow to actually ride the Nitro. It just screams. With all the torque and power, I'm afraid of spitting the track right out the back!

The power of the 440 may be a bit much on those original driver sprockets. Don't worry if you would clean the teeth off of them...NEW exact replications are in stock and made from best material available at present..so LET IT EAT!!! I set out to remake them a couple years back, so we could keep the vintage red sleds up and running without sticking other brand drives under them

Sounds like it was a good show. Congrats on the 1st place!!! I wanted to go to the show, but I had to go pick up an enclosed trailer I just bought, so after that we played on the sleds the rest of the day. Had a ball!!

Ruppers: Just make sure you don't run that old track too tight - they have a tendency to shoot the steel bars out the back and damage the tunnel on the way out! Run it a tad loose, as long as the sprockets don't skip you should be ok. Anything Brandt sells is top notch, so if you do strip off a sprocket, which is fairly likely if they are originals, Brandt can help you out real quick.
Hey Brandt: Can't a man with your connections get some tracks made? The Polaris 15" conversions just don't look right under the wide tunnels of the Rupps, particularly the Liquids. Just wondering. Wig

Wigman, I'll check the tension again, but I think it's ok. Thanks for the tip. The Rupp cover on the motor, as well as the shroud around the motor was bead blasted. I applied a coat of rubbing compound and and a coat of wax on yesterday. It really polished it just enough, but not too shiney. I'm new at this aluminum tunnel thing. My TX has that blue steel tunnel. I see lots of guys with mirrored finishes, but I also hear guys grumble about polishing a tunnel too much. Mine is about half way polished. What's the general concensus? Thanks

I just did the tunnel on my '77 Nitro and I wanted it to look nice, but not like a mirror. The way it came out was just a nice clean look, which is what I wanted. I used fine steel wool with Ditzler wax & grease remover to get all the corrosion off and then polished with Mother's aliminum polish and a buffing wheel, it came out just right. I want to ride the sled, although I love to look at the trailer queens, these things were made to be run and that's what I do. I will be putting more photos on the board as soon as I work out a couple glitches with the downloads from photobucket showing the full resto on my sled. Wig

wigman, joe v. and i tried to get tracks made about 3 or 4 years ago. goodyear threw the mold away for the rupp tracks and they had to start over. it would have costed about $300.00 our cost per track plus we needed to pay for the new mold wich was 1000's of dollars. there was a mininum of 500 tracks had to be ordered also. $300.00 x 500 =$150,000.00. i have come up with alot of new parts and reproduction parts but that kind of investment was not possible. THE RUPP SHOP b.s.

Hey Snosnake, can you share the story behind the decals on my Nitro tunnel?! Thanks! ruppersons

Bill: I figured there had to be a reason, the tracks are getting pretty tough to find, it would be nice to find a source for new ones again - how long ago did quimpex quit making them? Wonder if they have molds for the tracks - or were they made by Goodyear as well? Wig

Went to the Hayloft Pub Vintage Show today in Redfield, NY. About 85 sleds registered. A perfect day for a show. This is the previous owner of my Nitro, Mark Elwell taking it for a run on some nice snow. I grabbed a 2nd place trophy in Vintage Trail. Lots of really nice sleds, but I was representing with the ONLY Rupp!

Hey Al: You and Dave bringing your sleds to the show? I'd love to go, but I now have my Mom living with us, she is disabled and very ill, so personal trips are probably out this summer. If you go, get a bunch of pics - maybe one of Dave's comical narrative videos? Wig

I'll be there with my '72 Nitro. Stop by and say hello so I can put some faces to your Rupp names. I've met Jerry Kelly at the Byrnecliff CC show in Varysburg, and saw him at the Whiteout. Real nice guy, and has an awesome '73 Magnum! If Bob Sapp shows up with his Rupps, we might out number the featured Cats! Steve

I have to get a new stator for mine. one candle blew out. One of the old parts i did not replace. 95% of the engine was replaced. Hell, shame on me for not doing the other 5% LOL ! Maybe ill find one at the show. You have one for a 71' TR440 you want to part with ?
