Make sure that the temp gauge has the green wire hooked up to the sending unit. If it is make sure it has a good connection. It could be a bad sending unit otherwise. The tach might be garbage. I chased my tail with this one time. My tach wouldn't go over 7000 rpm no matter what I changed in the clutches.

These temp gauges are electric and if the voltage is not correct it will not read correctly, higher voltage will read higher temp, connect a volt meter set to AC voltage to test your voltage- may need a new voltage regulator , if the voltage goes up after the engine runs for a few minutes- bad voltage regulator! Should not go above 14 or 15 volts. Lite bulbs will also burn out from bad regulator high voltage! Check the wiring at the regulator to circuit board and regulator to ground. tighten up all the connectors at the circuit board!

sorry it took eo long it get backto you I have been working hard on it go get ready too race a cross-country race I checked the green wire it is ok I changed the heat sincere and that did not work I will find a new gage and see if that works I think the tack is just bad I went to the race and the sled was working great on a practice lap until the motor locked up we tore the top end down and it was all right but the crank has a point where it stopes from going all the way around I am going to tear it down as soon as I can get to it the one thing I did see is that it had 1976 pistons in it I don't remember my dad doing that or why he did that I think the sledis going tobe great I did not get to far before this happend I put a 1982 polaris supension in it with fox shocks and polairs track and skidoo SS25 skis with fox shocks on it
