This is interesting, I'm an auto painter by trade, 8am-5pm, sometimes 7am to 11:00 pm ,,not getting rich, but making a living, worked and and started under old school bodymen that got their start in the late 1940's -mid 1960's who taught me lots about the trade before I went to trade school and taught me work ethics,(they don't teach work ethics in this school) I prefer to work in the back and not deal with customers/estimates and the PR part of the job but don't mind if I have to. I still like my job, kinda' my own boss in a way ;D

Hi all,I'm a small engine mech for a golf course but i learned to wrench watching my grampa and dad turn wrenches at the old shop my grampa had for his rupp dealership.I pretty much was self tought, tear it down and put it back together.I went to trade school but there wasnt much of a challange 3-5 hp motors WOW big ponies there???By the 2nd half of school we were boring cyl's and shaving heads tweak hear tweak there, now were getting some where.Ilearnd how to port and polish and do little things here and there my self.Golf course work is busyer then hell in the summer and slack time in the winter.Summer hours are 4:30 to winter hours are when i dang well please!!more time for the sleds in the winter then in the summer, then when i'm not working at the course me and my dad run a shooting range 2 days of the week, and when i have a spare second i'm usaly doing a side job on golf carts.I just passed the 18th year in the golf business and it is dull at times but other days its a blast. And yes i know someone is saying WOW do you get free golf???1st question asked after i tell them where i work..Yes i do all the golf i want but i could care less to chase a little white ball around trying to make it go to it's home,i have better things to do like smell the KLOTZ smoke fumes rolling out of the pipes of my 73 magnum or seeing how low of an idle i can get out of the old snosport 370.Enough for now. I deal with the public. I work at the Post Office. I sell you the stamps and mail your Ebay packages. (No I don't get any discounts.) I've been doing this and sorting mail for 24 years now. It's not as good of a job or pay as most think and only getting worse. I can however tolerate it for now but really hope for an early out in 1.5 - 2 years. LOL I learned how to do the things I do by old school. Growing up in the 60's working on the farm and being from a poor family we couldn't afford to pay someone to fix things, so we did it ourselves. Also worked at my uncles Rupp dealership. Wife works too and that paid for the kids' activities and schooling, now it goes towards fixing the mess they made and the dilapidating house. Soon the truck will be paid off and the house will be done and then I'll have both time and money for the sleds. ;D

I as well deal with the public. I am a Manager for a large window and door company. I run the residential end. I am responsible for $750,000 worth of sold labor per year. I have 2 office girls that do the scheduling and take all the calls. I also have a supervisor that helps me keep control of the workers. I do the hiring and the firing. I handle a few different accounts. Home properties, national properties. Tri city apartments, Clover management ect.... They are all apartment complexes. I handle ordering window and door installation for them. I also handle 11 stores exclusively for Home Depot on there entry door installation program. I do all there estimates and coordinate the installs. I also sell to the public as cash and carry or installed. I Did get involved with Lowe's for there window and door installation but, I don't like how they play so, i dropped them. Our business does work all over the states doing commercial windows, store fronts and curtain walls. I was just in N.J. to check on the work that was being done. I do about 600 to 800 miles a week. I have a company ride. its a 2004 ford explorer Eddie Bauer addition. This is a gift from the owner of the company. I do not pay for gas, insurance or maintenance. We have a full Mechanics shop on site and a full time mechanic. I am fortunate and i know it as well as appreciate it. I worked damn hard to get where i am at. the owner has also sent my family to Florida and put us up in his condo in Indian shores. when i arrived he called me and said, Take your company credit card and take your family to Disney. I also had a Chrysler sebring convertible waiting for me. Who does that now a days. I love my job and am working for a new position. The owner will be going live in Florida when his kids are out of school in 4 years. He wants me to run the whole operation for him and he will get something going in Florida. He owns 2 condos there. Both are in the same complex. out the front door is the ocean and out the back door is the inner coastal water way. Back here i will get random calls from him telling me he has given my work to some one else and says to meet him down at the water. when this happens i know i have to call my wife and let her know i will see her tomorrow. He has a 33" well craft with twin 350's !!! I have always worked hard and will continue to do so. it gives me a chance to give my family a good life. I always put me on the back burner. someday i will get my turn at the bigger toys. I'm not interested in a big house and a big payment. I am a little bit old school. I do not have any loans (except a mortgage) nor do i personally own any credit cards. If we don't have the cash, We don't need it. My job allows me to let my wife not work. she has been a stay home mom for the last 8 years. I cant tell the future but, I can work for it. Dave.
