tom, the raiders of the 1970's were just simply trail machines and thats about it for them. all though there was alot of twin track technology going on in the 70's by other company's all coming up with there own ideas for the race track. to name just a few alloute, arctic cat, polaris, manta all tried there hand in twin track technolgy for the race track. but when the 80's hit ski-doo dominated and changed that era of racing. all of the twin track race sleds of the 80's were ski-doo's. other company's or individual's came up with there own twin track glass. race sleds now looked like nascar all painted and decaled up to satisy there sponsors. some say it is what killed snowmobile racing becouse people couldnt relate to a certain brand any more. other's say it was the best snowmobile racing of all time. twin track racing survived all the way up to the mid 90's before going back to a single track racing snowmobile. twin tracks do race now but more for just exabition more than any thing. b.s.171

They were made by Raider. Gary on this site had a 295 (not a big motor in my book) His dad was a Raider dealer. I believe Bill is right on the Manta. It my have had some Raider parts but I don't think Raider built them. The 80's Manta was built by the same guy (Bob Bracey) that built the Raider's in the 70s, the Manta's in the 80's and the Trail Rommer in the 90's. He was building another twin track sled or revamping and older twin tracker just before he passed.

Let me set this straight my father was a raider dealer from 72 to 75 when they went out of production. My father knew Bob Bracey personally the raider vehicles were built in the factory complex the bandits were handbuilt at another location by Bob Bracey r&d department. As the fourth top selling dealer in our region we had last choice of 4 bandits for this region. Our shop set up the I-500 72 400 bandit for the race that season I dont know where the 340 and 440 went ours was a 290r twin fan with twin carbs I wish I still had it! I have talked to many raider collectors none of them have ever saw a bandit I have a couple pictures I have found of ours...................GARY

I've owned a few Manta's (as you know Rick) & through all the research I've done on them I was also informed that they were made by Manta Co. & nothing at all to do with Raiders??

Raider Snowmobiles were produced by Leisure Vehicles, Inc. from 1971-1975 Bob Bracey started Leisure - left before they closed I think either started or joined ARBE. ARBE made the race Mantas in 75 and 76 I don't know who did the trail mantas ARBE or somebody else but Bracey was involved again with them and the trail roamers

Built by same guy but after he was at Raider correct? What I'm getting at is, I thought Manta had nothing to due with the Raider factory or production line & were built by another manufacturer in MI? Was also told that the deisgn for glass & posture of sled, came from a guy that designed Indy cars for Pensky? Really like the looks of the racing Manta but the trail is also way cool lookin. Have my eyes peeled for a cheap, chassis only, trail Manta now as I really want to build a custom. Try to shoe horn a 4 stroke Yamaha motor w/turbo & tuned exhaust for the crotch rocket type sound. Deck her out w/stereo w/sub woofers etc. for a pit runner at drags.
