Hello,
I am working on a 76 Nitro project and have found my track to be suspect and may not last too long on the snow. That said, does anyone have any excellent used or new tracks for this model available for purchase? I have read about some conversions but I would rather stay stock at this point since I have redone the rear suspension.
I would also like to find a new chain case gasket if anyone has these available.
Lastly, I have replaced the drive shaft bearings but need some clarification on the chaincase side. Specifically, the parts diagram lists 2 O-rings (38439) on the chain case side in back of the driveshaft bearing? Can anyone tell me if this is a standard o-ring or is this a specialty part. What is its purpose? If this is to be a seal, why not call it a seal? I found no part on the driveshaft when I took it apart so I have no comparison. Is this part necessary?
Any help on my questions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Its not the 14326 part number. Its an O-ring The slips over the bearing then the bearing flange bolts over it and keeps the oil from leaking between the bearing and the chaincase. Bring your bearing to a hardware store with you, and you should be able to come up with something.

So are you saying that the o-ring slips over the outside diameter of the bearing and simply seals the flange to the bearing even though the 3 nuts should hold the flange and bearing in place? I am not sure that I am understanding what you are saying so if you could better explain that I would appreciate it.
Any suggestions on where I could get a new chaincase gasket? or a good used track?
Thanks,

Yes, when you tighten the flange it mashes the O-ring so oil doesn't seep between the back side of bearing and chain case.

In the past, I have taken the oil out of chaincase & used grease. It's messy, but it does work. You need a grease that sticks like snot.NO more oil leaks. The product I used, is made in MN,Trophy brand,EP white lithium, low temp grease[got at Fleet Farm].It works for me,might not for you. One product that I didn't use,was the recomended,ATF,way to THIN for me. I have used anywhere from 50-90 weight oil in chaincase.

If you don't seal up the chain case good water is going to get in there and raise all kinds of hell down the road. Water is thiner then Trans fuild so if it won't hold in Trans fluid it's not going to stop water from getting in.

You can get the orings and chaincase cover seals from your nearest arctic cat dealer. That entire drive system is arctic cat except for the driver and that very stupid bearing cup on the clutch side of the tunnel.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the feedback, information, and for sharing of your vast knowledge. I don't have the knowledge of Rupp like all of you but I am sure learning that this project is a very costly endeavor and should be well thought out before you begin. That said, I can share this knowledge with anyone who is on the fence with there project.
Oh well, the project is and must go on.

Anybody know the Cat part number for the chain case gasket? I am thinking maybe it is 107-214 as that seems to be the one from that era?

Thanks Bill, much appreciated!
I have a local Cat dealer that will likely have one but if not, I will shoot you a message. I will likely find other needs too sadly.

I've never had any luck with that gasket. It's a real pain trying to get it to stay in place long enough to get the cover on. Tried sticking it on w/all kinds of sealants, etc and have just ended up putting a bead of gasket maker around the mating edge and it holds fine.
