Why don't we show case a sled of the month. We have a lot of members and lots of sleds. We could show case for example a 69 GTX. Members could post pics and show unique features of the 69 GTX ,such as engines available etc. good or bad? There are a lot of Rupps I know very little about because I don't own one. What do you think?

Let's see some 69 GTX stuff here. Well i,m off to a vintage ride this morning with my 71 634 Hirth sled.Good day everyone. Jer.

I can post some pics next week when I get back from Mexico of my GTX-295 re-build last winter. I tore down a standard Sachs SA-297 at the same time to compare them. Interesting stuff but nothing too jaw dropping...
Would love to know if anyone else has tore one down to compare notes, after 45 years you never really know what's been done to them?
Adios for now!

Nice, maybe Rick or Ed can put in a topic for sled of the month, maybe get rid of the Rupp registry ?

That used to be fun many years ago. I think we should have Rupp of the month again also.

Ed I can do that. Who is going to decide what the sled of the is. Numerical order starting with the first production year. 66 wouldn't be a bad start. Up to you. We will need a lot of participation to make it worth the effort.

Those sleds look pretty cool sitting in the mall like that, thanks for representing Rupp's in style! I think I promised you guys some pics of my '69 GTX-295 motor re-build so here goes... This is the sled as I purchased it from Rick, it is serial #31949 and came from out west (has a sticker that reads "Sheridan Ranch Supply" Sheridan, WY). There is a tag inside the LH side of the hood that reads "No.19, 11-27-68" with a "T8" in the upper RH corner and the word "List" in the lower left, all written in pencil. Don't know if that is specific to the hood or the machine? It had the original 13400 track on it which has a different "waffle" pattern to it than the normal tracks. This is basically a GT-300 (w/a Sachs SA-297) with optional speedo kit, rear suspension tie rod, all Sachs identification removed, a rally seat and a modified cylinder with a special high performance head. It's got a stock exhaust with a flex pipe and everything else appears to be standard (although it does have a cool lower cut windshield - thanks Rick!). I rebuilt a standard SA-297 at the same time as the GTX to compare them and note the differences. In the following pictures the GTX motor is on the right... What I found interesting was that the "special head" is an exact replica of the aftermarket G.E.M. high performance heads put out at the time. The reason I say "replica" is because I have a NOS G.E.M. head and it is flawless but the one on the GTX has some misshapen fins and casting issues which makes me speculate that Rupp had them made. They were also shaved. The cylinder appears to be a stock cast iron cylinder with "mustache" porting around the intake. The piston had boost ports drilled in it with the skirt trimmed... a standard piston is on the right. This sled came with an HR-149A Tilly which was spec'd for the '73 Ski-Doo TNT F/A. The tank was tapped for a return line to accommodate this carb. The original Rupp spec was for an HD-14A so I rebuilt a standard HD-14A, one with a return fitting and the HR-149A... we'll have to see which one works best! That is as far as I have gotten on this sled and hope to have it completely restored for next winter. I would love to know if anyone else has rebuilt one of these as you never know what's been done to a 45 year old sled?

Does that have a hr or HD carb pattern I believe all the early SA-290 singles came with the HR intake pattern, I will have to use an adapter.

Jer Good Luck! I have never seen one for the Sachs, the one I have is actually for a 300 Rotax with a 76mm piston. The bolt pattern is the same and it probably would have fit that 320 conversion that Ruppluver had. I know Hinckley Motorsports had a similar one at one time but I have only seen 3 in the past 5 years come up for sale. These heads were said to increase your speed by 4-5 mph on the top end due to the decreased combustion space which created higher compression and (unfortunately) higher temperatures.
