Hi all - new guy here. I recently found this photo of my granddad on one of the '70-something 440WT sleds he owned. I believe they're still sitting out behind a barn at one of my uncle's. I'm getting a little restorer's itch right now ... Other than riding these sleds as a kid, I really know nothing about Rupps, and not a lot about sleds in general. Is this a wild "Alice in Wonderland" rabbit hole I could fall into? ;D

You've come to the right place to find out about Rupp's. And from what I see it looks like a 71 440WT.

No more photos yet - I sent a request out to my family to see if anyone has any more, and secondly, to see if those sleds are still in existence. From what I recall (30+ years since I've seen them), they had a front gas tank and 2 chrome speed pins for hood hold downs. It might have had 2 small (non-functioning?) air scoops but I just don't remember right now. Heck, it's all I can do remembering what I had for breakfast this morning!

Thanks for the pic, Dave. That looks like what I recall. What did the '70 model look like?

GK - the '70 had a very similar profile but didn't have the scoops - you got a '71, should have the Tohatsu 440, a GREAT running motor - just ask Dave. I can't remember the brand of engine the 70's had, I think it could have been a Donaldson or Hirth or JLO, but it wasn't the Tohat. The W/T rode real nice and got a little better traction than the 44 Sprint, which was quite the spinner with all that power the engine put out. I think the 440 was either 35 or 40hp, with gobs of torque. Welcome aboard, this is the best place to be if you are a Rupp addict. Wigman

Well, my little brother finally chimed in in response to my request for more information from the family. He believes those sleds were sold off to the local Sanford and Sons quite a number of years ago. Looks like the odds of finding them again in any shape or form is slim to none. ... oh well.

GK: Track the sled down - there are plenty of parts available from guys right here on this board. The personal attachmet to a sled always makes for a real rewarding resto project! I tracked down my '77 Nitro I bought brand new and am just about done with the restoration, what a great time I have had redoing the old girl. Wig
