Hello All,
It was finally time for a new project and I pulled the trigger on a 1975 Nitro II 44 F/C. The motor is seized and just picked it up yesterday so have not dug into it yet. I hope the mice did not total the thing out, but we will see. Putting some other Mikunis on it since the mice pea seemed to have eaten away some of the aluminum on the carbs and they were missing the slides anyway. Just wanted to say hello and I would appreciate any information or help you guys could give me.
Why a Rupp? I was reminded that we already had 4 Polaris Indy's 92 XCR, 95 500, 88 Trail and 93 XLT up at the cabin, but I grew up on Rupps. Kicking myself for not insisiting we keep the 75 Free Air Nitro, 76 Nitro, 72 Nitro, 72 Yankee, 75 Nitro II, 71 Sport, 69 Sachs single cylinder 300 CC, sport I think. They are all gone now, the 75 Nitro II was the last to go about 12 years ago when we were cleaning up and remember seeing my brother crushing the Nitro II with a bobcat to fit better into the dumpster. Great memories from all the sleds, Polaris included, but the Rupps always seemed to be engineered ahead of their time and of course had great performance.
Steps for the recovery / restoration:
1. I am going to try to save the motor, but if anyone knows of any 440 Kohler Fans out there, I may be interested.
2. Also need a good source for decals looks like I should repaint the hood and replace decals.
3. left hood vent, nose cone possibly and the rest does not look too bad.
4. Of course the seat needs to be recovered, but that is an easy fix, but I could use a good source for the ribbled black seat fabric.
5. Primary clutch is in pieces so if anyone knows the right taper or of any comet clutches out there, it would be great to find a used one, would also entertain the secondary.
6. Have bearings on order so going with the cheap ones there since it looks like I will be spending plenty of money on the good stuff.
Please let me know parts sources out there. I live out by Stillwater, but we have the cabin up north of Duluth. I also get all over the state for my work, so can always stop by in Minnesota or Wisconsin for a good parts sources.
Thanks! Mark
