This one's a '69 Sno-Sport GT300...same as my Mom's first sled when I was a kid (my Dad had a GTX). The first sled I did was like my Dad's second sled, which was a '71 Magnum 400...I rebuilt (not a total restoration) a '72 Nitro 440 (which had been somewhat chopped up), into a'71 Magnum 440...it looks pretty good (even though it's really not finished...you know, there's always more you CAN do!). So the SS will be more of a restoration (I hope), by the time I'm finished!

Not sure if you have read an old post on my sled history but, if your interested i will share. This sled was bought from the original owner by my father back in "73". the original owner used it for only the "71" winter and then he moved. he was not able to use it at his new location, so he sold it. My father then redid the sled but, he took a long time on it. (tinkered) then registered it in "81" this was the first time we used it. only a hand full of times that winter. we rode at a place called colden lakes. after that winter my dad moved to Rochester n.y. and it sat in his garage for 4 years. I Drove my "79" pick up out when i was 19 to see him for Christmas. My dad then gave me the sled for a Christmas peasant. (BLOWN AWAY) i took it back to my moms house and hopped on for what was going to be an adrenaline filled ride. Man i was pumped. I fired it up and HIT THE THROTTLE. Thats when the track blew out the back end. That is also the last time my sled saw snow. I did not know what to do with it. we didn't have INTERNET and i never saw another rupp in my neck of the woods. Because it was my dads i could not get rid of it. i remember when he had it apart and there were parts in the living room. so i just hung on to it. I had always told my dad i would fix it someday. Now that i have discovered the rupp message board i am able to move forward with my dream. The only sad part is i lost my dad 1 year ago. I wished i could have finished it b-4 his passing. I think he would have proud.

That's a good story! I think my Dad was pretty thrilled that I wanted to connect with a part of his past with my building of my '71 Magnum...I remember just flying on that as a young boy, sitting in front of him and trying not to get my scarf sucked into the carb! When I ride mine, I can't imagine two people sitting on it...it seems so small now!!
