The top of New Hampshire has seen the Alliance between the Pittsburg Ridge Runners and Colebrook Ski-Bees that jointly founded “The Great North Woods Vintage Snowmobile Race Series” last year to great success, have been joined this season by the Umbagog Snowmobile Club of Errol. The addition of the Errol venue brings the series up to three Vintage Racing events for ’73 and older stock snowmobiles.
The dates for the three events is as follows; Pittsburg January 10, 2009, Colebrook, February 7, 2009, and Errol February 28, 2009. A fourth event is in the works for early April with Vintage hill climbs, closed course race and possibly a water-cross.
The concept of the series was put together by several club members from the Pittsburg club that were looking for a new way to help support the growing budgets of the states three northern most clubs. The primary objective was to raise needed funds to support extensive grooming efforts, and to this end it was successful. An unexpected benefit of the series was that the clubs involved found that they were able to plan and execute the massive effort while having a lot of fun doing it. Most clubs are very proud and independent from each other while taking care of their designated areas. This effort has shown that we can get more done working together and certainly enjoy the process.
The’73 and older format seems very popular because there are lots of old machines of that era that are available at a reasonable cost. They are simple to work on, being almost 40 year old technology; someone can get involved, do their own prep work and have a ball that involves more driver ability than high tech tricks. The track design is set up with lots of corners and switch backs to keep the speeds down to a relatively safe level.
The locations of the events are all unique and give each club the flexibility to really get creative in making sure their track will be memorable to racers and spectators alike.

Dust off that old relic in the corner of your garage and join us for a trip back in time to a time when gas was $.28 a gallon, and snowmobile racing was in its infancy!
