At Redleaders request I will give a quick over view of the stock class letter system. In a nut shell it is a way to classify sleds based up performance potential,.....rather then cooling type or even cc size. It takes into consideration the manufacturers claimed horsepower and the weight of the sled. The highest class is AA. There were only 4 sleds ever manufactured that were given a AA rating. These were the '77 z 440,....the '77 Blizzard 440,.....the '77 Moto-Ski Super Sonic and the '77 SRX 440. In the beginning/early years the '76 Twister 440 and the '76 SRX 440 were also AA sleds, but several organizations moved them down to "A"in the later years.
The next class is "A". These are basically your high performance consumer race sleds such as the '78-80 SRX 440,...Kawasaki Interceptor 550,....'80 Ski-Doo 9500 ect.
Next is "B" stock. These are your high performance free-air sleds such as the Nitro F/A,....THE '75 El Tigre Z 440. Also in "B" stock would be some high performance 340 liquid race sleds such as the '76 Twister 340.
"C" stock consist of low performing 440 lquids and single piped 440 free-air sleds.
"D" stock has always been a popular class and generally has the most entries. Examples of "D" stockers are 440 TrailTwisters,...340 Merc f/a Twisters,....Rupp Nitro F/A 340,....Yamaha 440 Exciters. " E" stock class are the sleds such as 250 Twister and '72 Nitro 440 ect.
Using a letter classification system is generally regarded as the fairest way to hold a race. For example, a liquid Rupp 440 is a "B" stocker while the liquid Twister 440 is an "A".
Anyone else feel free to add additional information.
