The TR 440S-3 cylinders are the best. And the 72 exhaust is the best but if you have to go stock use the TR440S-2 motor and the 72 exhaust.
If there is not a S after the CC size it is a steel bore. (low horse power) If the is a S after the cc size then it is a chrome bore. (higher hose power)

I know we have gone over this in the past, but I can't find the thread on the different motors. I have 7 or 8 440 tohatsu motors, what's the order of performance tr440-3 tr440-3S tr440-2 tr440 ? I have some of each and just want to know which one I should take to beat a certain yamaha who's not playing fair at the local radar runs! Another easy/inexpensive trick is to install a gravity fed slide lube system. First make sure they allow slide lubers at the races you are attending. Most radar event do allow lube. Results will vary of course, but expect 1-2 mph increase from adding the lube system.

We use to drill holes in the slides them-self, less surface friction. lossen the track as far as you dare, synthetic lube in the chain case.

The 73 is a 5 port cylinder the 72 is a 3 port with the finger ports. What difference does it make you can't run the 73 cylinders with the 72 exhaust. unless you are cheating? ?? I know and you know your sleds are fast so what do you mean by slow

You mean like the guy that kicked are butt yeaterday? He had a newer motor in his old yamaha and he called it stock! I"m not complaning, we did great, in all we came home with 6 trophys. even the little 23 did great, we got it over 40mph to take a first in the single cylinder class. our 340 was up 5mph from last week, Thanks to you guys and some of your suggestions. and next week it will even be faster! We took 2nd in the vintage 440 fan class, even as the rear idiler drive was flying off the sled as it was going down the track. Caleb finish the the race with tears running down his face as some of the parts hit him pretty hard. If any of you guys ever need a youth driver this is your guy!

You got your post in before mine I was responding to sno snakes post. Anyway The sled for this week will be the 73 Nitro 440 Fan. What do you guys think and average speed for a 440 fan would be on a 1000 ft track? 80?

The first thing I would do is adjust the suspension so you get some ski lift upon launch. With less ski pressure you will get more mph out of it. Your track is studded I take it. Are you running the stock rupp clutch ?? Also the next time you have the suspension out pull seals out of the bearings where theres no way anything can get into it anyway. Like for instance the bearing in the right side of the drive shaft. Leave the one side on that faces the track. But pull the other side off. Also leave that seal off. I think the number is 14237 ?? Also on the chaincase side there should be two of them. Remove the one that faces the track. Leave the other one alone or your chaincase will leak. You can also make other bearings spin alot more freely by pulling the seal away from the bearing a bit and spray some Tri Flow into them. I would suggest the rear axle bearings and the top bogies on the swing arm. Anything that you do to make everything spin more freely is great !!!!

Ok that'a a good point! what about the ski pressure versese the wedge in the rear suspention, I have two wedges on each side to get more track surface but at the same time it causes more track friction. yes were running the stock clutch it doesen't shoot us out of the hole very fast but it opens well and were keeping the rpms up. we have been running 1000ft runs and all the sleds seem to top out 3/4 of the way down the track. what's your take on how fast a 440 fan should run?

Well to cure your track friction you need a lube system and loosen the track. 1/2 RV antifreeze and 1/2 windshield washer fluid. RV antifreeze is biodegradable. You can get away with 100% RV antifreeze if it isn't real cold out. Otherwise it will slush up. Are you sure its topped out by the clutches closing and opening all the way or by ( seat of your pants ) ?? If they are shifted out all the way you should try gearing up a tooth on top. Hopefully your motor will have the power to pull it. Otherwise you will have to lighten the weights in that clutch. I have no idea about them old clutches. After you know you can't get it faster with what you got I'd upgrade to a comet 102 C.

I would like to see the differences first hand, Hope to see you this weekend, we will have the 72 back out on the track.
