Josh is on to something with the bearings and seals. Some local guys here that race cats take all the seals out of their suspension bearings and wash all the grease out with Slick50 and run them without lube. Just doing the wheels in the suspension they picked up two tenths. These guys are running well over 100mph in 500 feet with their open sleds, though.
If you're looking for more speed, update to a 102C hor hex clutch. You'll notice gains from the hole shot all the way to top end using a clutch you can tune for the sled and track conditions.

The 73 is a 5 port cylinder the 72 is a 3 port with the finger ports. What difference does it make you can't run the 73 cylinders with the 72 exhaust. unless you are cheating? ?? I know and you know your sleds are fast so what do you mean by slow Rick, As you know, I like to keep this site from being boring. I would like to see the differences first hand, Hope to see you this weekend, we will have the 72 back out on the track. Paul get a 73 cylinder and look. If you are talking about racing my sled it wouldn't prove anything. no matter who won.

So do you agree with the double wedge in the rear sus.? I will build a couple of lube systems this week, As far as the clutch goes I love to get a 102, anybody have one they what to sell? Just read this thread - Sticks, 2 wedges are perfect, but don't use more than 2, those leafers will bust right at the mounting bracket, but loosen up the track as suggested and one more thing, loosen up the rear coil springs. This will keep that weight transfer to the rear, the front of the track will be jammed into the ground, and the skis barely touching the ground the whole way. Good luck! ;D

I've tried both the 102c ,hex, and the "quick shift" clutch image sells on a nitro 2 and trail twister. the hex was 2mph faster but I'm sure if I kept playing with the comet I could get it. If you put a 102c on the nitro put some washers between the motor plate and the engine to raise it a little. you will still have to grind the steering arm some to get the belt on and off. I have a video on you tube with my Merc at 86mph (hex) and my buddies at 84 (comet). I really like the hex other than the maintenance. If you have a gram scale you can also make your own "thunder shift" type kit with stuff from the hardware store. Get a bunch of machine washers

Were getting off on this just a little. the sleds I have been working with on this project are 73 340 and 440 nitro Fan, I realize manythings carry over from the liquids, but they don't share the same kind of hp. I believe the 73 is a stronger motor than the 72 but the 73 exhaust keeps it from being as competive as the 72 in a stock class.

Sticks if you really want it to hook up use the 75 F/A springs. <a href="http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd163/snosnake/?action=view¤t=Jacob-Rupp00000-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd163/snosnake/Jacob-Rupp00000-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Clearly I must be doing some thing wrong, The only way I get the front of my sled off the ground that high is to get off the sled and pick it up!

If I remember right I had to make the hole a little bigger. I change stuff on that sled so much it's hard to remember when I did what to it.
