John Albert Antique & Vintage Classic 2/14/09

A great day in Oriskany Falls, NY today at the CNY Snow Travelers annual show. Featured sled? [glow=red,2,300]RUPP[/glow]! They chose Rupp because it's [glow=red,2,300]Valentines Day[/glow] They give out a 58" trophy for the winner of the featured sled!
There were many awesome Rupps entered in the show. The winning "Featured Sled" was near impossible to compete with. It was this 1975 Nitro F/A owned by Russ DeYoe. It has been in storage for 30 years since brand new. Russ found it in a tractor trailer bed, covered with junk and even dead racoons. But, it was still bolted to the crate it was shipped in, with the skis stored on the tunnel. That's how he kept it, new on the crate. Zero miles. Never been started. Factory fresh. Just as it was from the factory...




Russ also had his [glow=red,2,300]'73 Magnum [/glow]on display. It's one of the nicest Magnums I've seen in person....





This next Rupp is the most unique Rupp, let alone vintage sled I've ever seen. It's Randy Coolbaugh's "[glow=red,2,300]HOTRODRUPP[/glow]".
It has a '72 Nitro chassis, '76 Sport drive, and the body is "bits and pieces" of various sleds. The engine??? - A 1972 550cc Honda 5-speed!!! (The first pic is fuzzy, sorry.)

I HAD THE GREAT PLEASURE MEETING DREW PHELPS, ALIAS "DREWSTER" FROM RIGHT HERE ON OUR BOARD! DREW HAD A COUPLE OF BEAUTIFUL RUPPS, A '74 NITRO 2 AND A '75 ORIGINAL NITRO F/A 440. I BELIEVE DREWSTER GOT A FIRST PLACE TROPHY WITH BOTH SLEDS!



THIS 76 MAGNUM WAS AWESOME! IT WAS FOR SALE TOO! I HEARD SOMEWHERE BETWEEN $4,000-$4,500.

Hey Steve some real nice photo's there. you guy's are lucky to have so many show's to go to
I have none around here. we had one a couple years ago an hour away the next year it went to the mass expo. you would think with all the vintage guy's in connecticut we'd have something besides no snow

Thanks for the photo compliment. Yes, lots of shows around upstate NY. I've attended 4 shows in the past 5 weeks, and I missed the Whiteout!
My wife might leave me, but at least I'll still have my old sleds! ;D
Having Rupp as the featured sled was really cool at the Oriskany show.
The next show around here is at the Hayloft Pub in Redfield, NY on March 1. Then it slows down for the spring and summer shows.
I'll give you a shout the next time I'm near West Haven, and we can have another cold one and talk old sleds.

Here's the link. I had a nice time there last year. About 60 or so sleds on display, and a nice field to take a ride in. I won a 2nd place Original Vintage Trail last year with my Nitro.

I have the original can muffler. The 72 Nitros have a nice distinct sound. Not as quiet as say an American, but not as loud as stinger pipes. Hope to see you again at future shows!

Yup, that Honda-Rupp is so unique. I'm sure some Rupp purists might raise an eyebrow towards it, but the amount of engineering work that guy did was spectacular. Compare that to the luck of finding that one-of-a-kind desirable Nitro on the crate... some tough choices for best of Featured Class for sure. If there was only an 800 to throw into the Featured Class competition that day. That would have been interesting.

That's the same thing I was thinking Drew... why a 550 Honda???!!! It looks great, but I can think of a few other motors I'd choose to put in that thing! Maybe a budget kept him in check!
Are you going to either the Hayloft show in March or Alexander in May?
