who makes the best head gaskets for 440 lc xenoahs? i used to be a rupp dealer back in the day. Now i am back restoring a 76 nitro i remember a lot of head gaskets blowing in the middle water jackets i am square decking everything on this motor crankcase , clyinder base ,clyinder head surface bolted to crankcase to get as straight as i can. i have added wire oring on clyinders before i am think about counter boring the top of the clyinders this time maybe taking a .004 deep cut the diameter of the fire ring of the gasket to get more bite by the water jacket. Any of you guys gone this route before? every body over torqued the head studs i am heilcoiling all head studs, cant say i like all the flat and lock washers these xenoahs stack on all the bolts, this time i will surface head then spot face all bolt bosses and use flanged head nuts. any body got any other ideas?my clyinder need boring, that heads got a funky 22 mm expansion plug in it have had no luck finding it, i guess i will counterbore it to 7/8 and use a american plug i will post some pictures when i get that figured out, man i forgot how beat up this stuff gets after 33years and man i got the chasis to do yet ,at least i got a couples sundays rides around the farm, man this going to take some time

Red19lite, If get a hold of Bill Stull he can help you out with head gaskets and pretty much anything else you would need for your 76 lc Sounds like you have had some issues with these motors in the past, good luck with your restoration, can't wait to see some pictures of it. Sticks

Cometic # C5005 kit with their fire ring is the best gasket you can get and use it dry. www.cometic.com/snowmobile.aspxor if you need for a 250 www.cometic.com/custom.aspxAn ultra thin coat of gasket maker works really well on orig. ( Ala Arctic Cat service bulletins) Especially if you use Winderosa you'll spring leaks unless you seal them. No need to do a bunch of expensive machine work. Good luck!

I will chime in my .02 cents. I have owned 4 liquid sleds since 1997. I drive/race all my sleds....I dont build/own them to look at 'em sit in the corner. I have held the throttles down back and forth across the lakes all day long and never had any problems. I have never had any trouble with leaking heads. The Cometic gaskets do seem to be the best. I think the best advice is to always be aware of the head torque and check it at the start of each season.
