I've also got yet another Kohler fan 440 I'm building. It ran but the crank sounded terrible so I took it apart and have another. The pistons looked like they where just changed BUT one of the pistons is unlike any fan piston I have seen before. One piston looks just like all the others I have used, two ring, but they only used the top ring. The other piston only has one ring... And the ring looks like a regular fan ring. I then put a pin between the two pistons and the single ring piston has a shorter skirt on the intake, I have not measured it but it is at least an 1/8th inch. There are no markings inside the piston or out... no numbers nothing. Anyone know what this could be? I'm going to try and get some pics on here later if I can get some good ones

THE SINGLE RING IS PROBABLY A MERC LIQUID PISTON

hmmm. would it use the saem ring as the fan? Big ring. Any advantage? The squish looks different as well.

Have I stumbled on an ancient chinese speed secret or just some hack stuffing in whatever would fit?

I would guess it would be the Twister piston as well. Post a pic!

I did some checking around and it is a liquid twister piston. NOW... Is there any advantage of using these? The intake skirt is slightly shorter... Someone spill the beans please. I've got it apart and will use the liquid pistons if they add any performance. My motor is umm... does not have stock porting. Other than the transfer size, they are real close to F/A specs.

single ring, less friction, that is something the fan guy's do never seen the difference on a dyno

Do the cylinders by chance have steel sleeves?

nope chrome bore. Was the L/C twister an iron bore? They could have used the fan ring on it because it looks the same, not a chrome ring.

liquids were chrome also, need to use the ring from the twister piston

The rings had nothing to do with the steel sleeves. Seeing as it doesn't have steel sleeves it doesn't matter. But it could have been an ancient chinese speed secret.

I also have a set of F/A 44 pistons that of course are a different bore. Its interesting that the F/A pistons look alot like the L/C pistons especially around the pin. The F/A is actually a little higher.. You can see it above on the L/C piston. My take is this.... Should get more RPMs as it will change the transfer port "timing" Again my motor has porting close to a F/A especially the exhaust ports. I'm also using twin liquid pipes on my "F/C Magnum". I can't see why this will not work??? Someone must have layed with this before... I'm going to get another L/C piston and try it.. A fan motor has no idea it has a fan bolted on it... Can't see why it can't make close to F/A power?
