I just came back from 'vintagesleds' where there's a picture of a 74 Cat 650 SnoPro.Poster said it's his favorite Cat.I wondered about the difference between paint/graphics versus profile/stance.Why are we stuck with OEM?I ordered a custom 75 F/A hood from Bill Stull because I can have both, custom and OEM.Don't give up because the correct parts aren't available.Stick a 440 Kohler in a 73 Magnum. It won't be worth a gazillion dollars but it'll look good and fly, too.Go ahead and start a 'WHAT IF' sled,IFS suspension, aftermarket goodies.Paint it red and call it what you want.

nice post mark, i am all for the customs. look at the car world, they have been doing it since day one. i remember when i built my first custom and i called it the "what if sled". since then, now the name has stuck around, "what if". what i built was something to what dale wanouse built first, but just took it farther. started with a 76 magnum chasis, cut down hood that kinda looks like a 3d hood, put the l/c motor through the hood, decalled it up, wedge seat. it really looked awesome. then i sold that sled, built another with glass i designed, the front mounted 3d and just called it a sno-pro. even though rupp didnt build these sleds they sure could have. thats what i like about it. all of my rupp customs are rupp heratige. even my races sleds are on the custom side or "what if" side of things!! like mark said even though some of the orginal parts may not be around or you cant find them or cant afford them do what you want its your sled and have fun!!!! her is a pic of my 75 "what if" sno-pro. b.s. 171

If it ain't right, it's wrong.... How did the 74 Cat inspire all of this, being it's an OEM machine? When he described what he liked about it,it was mostly the paint scheme.I thought about it and wondered if a custom paint job would change people's minds. When I first saw Joe and Glenda's 75 F/A from Ruppfest last year,I thought that's how they should have looked. It's not a radical change.

Looks like I re-opened the old argument against clones and what-if's.The 'OEM camp' has the upper hand in popularity and value, probably always will.I just think that there's also a place for creativity.By the way,I always liked the looks of those Sno Pro cats, they don't need changin'!

Rick, Bill both very nice sleds, Mark post some pics when you get the hood painted if you don't mind, I was thinking of a similar build next winter with a custom f/a hood but different than Joe's and Alan's, Did you get one of Bills hoods or one from Greg? If the 74 650 sno pro inspires your thinking you will have to see bankRuppts, oh it may inspire another winter build as well, we do need a little kick start once in a while ;D

thanks ed for the compliment!!
with marks permission i will post a pic of his hood as soon as its done.
one thing to remember, with my custom sleds and probly with everybody elses, they always can be changed back to orginal. none of my sleds anyways have been butchered to the point that they couldnt return to an orginal rupp!!!
my ddi 295 wedge sled has a off set of about 5 inches to the right, lol....b.s.171
