I blew a head gasket today on my 76 440 nitro, this motor really hauls- still have to tighten the track a little more, all looks good so I am going to put in new head gaskets but I need the torque specs for the head bolts and the thermostat cover bolts- the thermostat is stuck open so I will try to find a new one- says 60 degrees Celsius on it. Anything Else I should be checking?

Head bolts 14-16 ft lbs retorque after heat soak. 10.5-13 ft lbs for the thermostat cover.

I wouldn't ever consider anything under 20 ft pounds for the head. It might be a green dripper at them low of torque specs.

I didn't name them green drippers because they leak when you put them together but because they drip green all over the place when you take them apart.
Like I said I am just telling him what it said in the book.
