I will probably be at the show as I was last year but I think what Rooney is saying is that when a show allows the "general public" to take multiple ballots and vote with only a cursery look at each sled it really doesn't result in the best sled of each catagory winning a place. That's not to say that the "general public" may get it right once in a while, but they usually don't. The best judging is done with a "points" system and is conducted by people that really know what they are judging. Letting kids grab extra ballots and vote for Dads sled isn't really the best method. Are we in agreement Rooney?

You hit it the nail right on the head WES.
When I first went to the show with my 69 sno sport and got a 1st place trophy in my class, I was glad to see people really liked my sled, as I never vote for my own sled, I've been to 3 of the Don Cummings shows and alway's take the time to walk around and vote for what I think is the best for the classes entered, last year there was some real nice Rupps & other brand sleds that stood out and shined and it was real hard for me to choose with so many good sleds, when people from far away bring there NICE sleds and spend alot of MONEY traveling, they should at least get some respect (NOT---- VOTE FOR YOUR BUDDY), I was glad thou to show my 72 ORIGINAL 1100 mile 440 Nitro and have some people come by and appreciate the Originality, that can never be taken away from any show, as for the STUPID PARTICIPANT JUDGING goes, I will never go to another show that far, especially when SOME PEOPLE WIN a trophy most of the time..........ROONEY

Just my 2 cents, Steve stay home I'm taking my 73 magnum and you would loose anyhow............. ;D, OK just kidding Steve..... I looked at the 72 nitro before you bought it and it is nice. No one will agree on each and every way a show is run. I enjoy having everyone enjoy my sleds, I don't register most of the time, once in a while I do but I don't ever expect to win, and I'm not disappointed. Everyone has their own reasons why they collect sleds. OH I try and sell my stuff to the right people to get the job done.

Go to have fun and don't worry about the 10.00 plastic trophy.
Points??? This is a snowmobile show not a car show. Besides it would very hard to find someone thats knows everything about one brand let alone evey brand at the show. Points will not work.
Just saying.

Last years Don Cummings show changed my whole way of thinking towards vintage sled shows. I realize everyone has an opinion and are certainly entitled, I use to be one of those guys who enjoyed recognition for all the hours spent finding, restoring, cleaning, showing, etc. Rupp snowmobiles. Unless you were at the show, and saw with your own two eyes the blatant cheating and changes being made to ballots, it is easy to see why people might boycott the show. The kicker to the whole thing is that the sled/person in question not only won first place in his category(over all the other spectacular brands), but decided he also deserved best feature sled. So to all who spent money on fuel, food, hotels, etc. it was a slap in the face.It left a bad impression, however it changed my whole attitude toward shows. I now go to network, shoot the proverbial sh.., and try to get the parts before Craig, Wes, and Dan get them all. I have enjoyed every show since, I have met great people, got leads on stuff, joined a local club, and above all have made a lot of really great friends. I agree the ten dollar trophy is just that, perhaps we should just call them vintage sled get-togethers, donate the proceeds to a good cause and that could be our trophy.

There hasn't been any sled event past or current where someone isn't complaining about something! There's always someone cheating or taking things a little to far! Learn to deal with those facts or get out entering in vintage events!!!

I have gone to alot of the shows and when its fair its great to have your sled reconized. Its not the trophy.I have put way to many hours in the sleds and when something like this happens over and over it sucks.I had the greatest time a few weeks ago, it was a non judged show, handed over a donation, Mcruppin and I blasted the Rupps around on a huge golf coarse, got to drive my 740 and a DDI 71 Magnum, wow!!! Best time ever.So you do need to go to have fun and hangout, but we dont need people doing crap like that.John, hows that working out with the finding parts More to come on that in a few days

mcruppin's got it right. Don't ever go to a show expecting to win a trophy. Most of the trophy's I've won My sled wasn't the best and many times I felt I had the best sled it didn't win. That's life. But to not go at all is a huge loss for yourself and everyone else involved. Rupparooney, I would have never seen your sleds in person if you didn't make that long trip out here. I spend a lot of time looking at them and taking pictures. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I didn't waste it. I for one hope you change your mind!
