Ive been trying to get my 440 running for a couple weeks now and its just kicking my butt. I had a mikuni on it but it would just flood out and die I changed jets and pilot jets and still flooded so I figured Ill throw a tilly on to try and get it going It would idle great drive good at about 1/8 throttle then any more it would die I tried more fuel and less fuel no difference so i figured maybe timing so i checked it and it seemed off so I changed it and now it wont even fire. I tried timing it a different way then i originally did tho. I was told by some one to just set the points to open when the marks line up on the case but i never asked do i line them up with it in full advance or no? When i did it i timed it not in full advance. Any suggestions? Oh btw its a tr 440-2 thanks

Timing needs to be done at full advance! You will need a dial indicator & test light when timing engine. When adjusting the points, align the scribe mark on flywheel with the mark on the crankcase. This will position one set of points on the high side of cam.Adjust those points to 0.013,+or- .001 inch. Now,rotate flywheel 180 degrees & align other flywheel mark with crankcase mark. Now this set can be adjusted. The points need to be cleaned before attempting to adjust them!!!!
