My other summer project, will be a 1969 GT300! I already did the chaincase conversion. I will update the track,re-do the steering to a later type[1970-72] & put a different backrest on it[from a 1970]. The gas tank might get some changes also[I'll cut it open, clean it out & put a new top on it]. I will start by cleaning up the first batch of parts, including the tunnel. This is the steel chaincase that I converted to the later aluminum one.NONE of my Rupps will EVER have a case like this.NO how,NO way.

Cliff up in Devils Lake,ND helped me with some welding touch up on my tunnel. He used TIG. I even got to try welding with TIG,I won't be giving up my MIG welder anytime soon so I can weld aluminum!!! This is chaincase side. Aluminum can be intimidating, but I think it would be fun. If you can oxy-acetylene weld, you can TIG weld!! I didn't weld this,I practiced on a scrap piece of aluminum.

I had to change the brass bushing in the outer sheave, where the helix is.Just remember, the bushing is pinned in place!!!!The spiral, roll pin is QUITE SMALL,maybe 1/16" or so. It is the small, dark, round spot between the fins.

The trouble is,I am SLOW!!! The 2 sleds I'm building [only get worked on till I have to do yard maintenance] might be completed by next year. I'm in NO hurry, that's why I would never do it for someone else. Most would like the sleds ready for when there is snow. I did body work & painting, for close to 25 years.I got burnt out, that's why I will NEVER do it again for anyone but myself. Thanks for the compliment magnumal.

Lookin' good, Dan! I recently picked up a '70 Sprint 29 that someone had installed the newer style chaincase in...but they just hacked a chunk out of the running board to make it fit!!

I think, some people, don't think things through. They just do what they think is right & use the tools at hand, whether right or wrong. You can cut an area out & reform a steel plate & put over the bottom. You can heat it,very carefully,& beat it with a hammer, till it's right.Lots of different ways to do it. What I do with this one depends on what the one waiting for me in Michigan looks like once I get there to pick it up...if it's better, then I may make this into another racer (that I may not ever find the time to race! LOL!)...

I love watching you build this stuff, it makes me wish I was a better fabricator, and calling me a fabricator is the farthest stretch of the word imaginable.

Thanks lemans1955. I had 3 years of fabricating stuff while in the Army!! PLUS I've been building & modifying stuff all my life. I look at things, think about it & start doing it.The more you do it,the easier it becomes.By the way,I've "ONLY" been doing it for 50 years!!!!!

I'm sure Dan and everyone else could tell I was joking with him but 74nitro being the D**k head he is was to stupid to figure it out. I'm surprised you had time to post with all the time you must spend changing parts to your "original" sleds to get them ready to enter them in the original class.

Sometimes it does good,to get off topic a little. I usually have some pretty thick skin,so most of what is said, doesn't bother me. Anyway, the main reason is to talk about sleds & have some fun,if it's at my expense,so be it!

I guess i must have misunderstood your intentions.. Hindsight is always 20/20. Are you still whining about the Rogue?? How many originals is it that you own?
