Hey guys, currently building a 74-76 nitro II/ rally into a racer. The rear of the tunnel has the usual cracks at the corners. The factory bar is missing but I didn't want to use one anyway, I was wondering what you other racers have done to add strength to this section? Cross bars being the obvious answer, but anything diffrent would be cool to see. Thanks guys!

I like to use the 77-78 Nitro setup on my racers. Very strong.

i dont have a picture but the 77 and 78 nitro was a better deal for supporting the back of the tunnel. one "L" bracket on the back of the tunnel on each side and a rod bolted to them going across the back of the tunnel.

Did he have to fully enclose the rear end? Some ice oval sanction bodies require this.

Here is the tunnel enclosure I had built at work. Sheetmetal that was welded on the edges to enclose the rear of the track. I had longer material that I bent and secured to the bottom of the footwells to stop the cracks from expanding. Seems to have held up OK. I painted it black and used T bolts to install.

Thanks for the pic, it looks like a good solution. I'm not racing on ice yet so a bit too drastic of a measure for me, going to go with a 77-78 nitro style support for the snow racing we do. As for the cracks, going to get them welded up and reinforced with more aluminum sheet under the footwell. Should be 100% stronger than stock (which isn't really saying much) Thanks for the replies guys! Really appreciate the help!
