This is the hood off my Dad's dealer sled from 1970. "Sandy's Sales and Service" Holland, NY. I would love to find a sled to put this hood on. It was a 1970 W/T.

It came from a guy Named Dave Reese. He says he raced for Rupp in the 70's. This racer has a 76 Rupp 440 liquid on it. First time I took it out it scared the crap out of me. I hit loose dirt and flew over the front when the sled dug in. it stopped and I didn't. Not much ground clearance.

It's a grass drag sled from the 70's. It has a 76 440 Rupp liquid on it. Runs great and very fast.

Speaking of old school drag sleds here's one I just took down to the frame. Time to give the ol' girl a face lift. Joe

What's the story behind that neat little piece of kit? It doesn't look like a Manta chassis, some really nice engineering on it.

Spent some time yesterday afternoon talking to the designer/builder to answer some questions I had about it before I get too far into it. I can tell you it is all hand built except for things like track.drivers.motor,clutches stuff like that. Frame is 1/2" square chromolly(sp?) tubing. Shafts(4) are all titanium. Tracks are actually Rupp-76 Mag with center window cut out. Pipes were built in engineering dept at University of Michigan. New motor out of the box was heavily modded then sent out to get entire engine balanced. He said he wanted it to spin 10G by the 50ft mark, usually made it by the 20-30ft mark. My aim is to get this done for the National show here in Michigan this summer and I should as long as the new pipes are done in time(hint hint). I don't think he checks this site that often anymore, guess I better call him. Designer got a little tearry eyed when he saw the pic of the panel that goes in back between the tracks. Told him I didn't want any credit for it, it's his baby, i'm just the care taker. Joe

Wow 10k rpm on a hirth 650! I am really surprised that those motor coult take that kind of beating. Those are some pretty big pistons that are getting thrown around! Friggin awesome sled tho!

Luke, I thought that was a lot of RPM's also. I'm sure the blue printing/balancing helped that out alot. I talked to Jeff Mooney(Nobody) about this motor once, he has quite a bit of experience racing the 650 Hirth. I think he said there were 3 different versions/combinations of the 650's and this one has the right top end with the right bottom to make big horse power. I know the domes have been modified along with the squish. Didn't ask what all else was done to it. I know the exhaust ports are huge, look to be as big around as my wrist! Ran a pair of 44's with what looks to be a modified injector system. Just rememberd where I put them today, gotta ask him about those. Joe

Well, when you get that bad boy up and running take a video of it or something cuz its awesome. I still cant believe that those pipes would make that much rpm tho, they look to big volume wise to do it. But who knows!

snosnake, The previous owner told me it was a 76. I've never paid much attention to it as I don't have much knowledge on 76-77. I bought 4 sleds from him, 3 Nitros, the drag sled, some extra motors and lots of parts. $800 for all Attachment Deleted

I guess it could be a 76 motor but the head is a 77. If you can see the numbers on the base of the jug's it would tell you what year they are.
