ed, your restoration is amazing. i agree that the glass would not be correct for a off set front 3d like your original magnesium sled. the 3d glass that lee fedrickson found was not altered in any way on top of the hood or in the lower sides. it was made from rupp, both side's the same dimension. its hanging on my wall in the rupp shop. any body can look at it any time there here and you will see that it has never been altered. i am not sure how many rupp guys seen the glass before i fixed it up, but there was a handful. it was not off set glass and was not altered. the very front of hood and lowers where cut off, that had to be made but nothing with the top of the hood or the side pods. your sled looks great!! Then it's not correct all 3rd Dimension sleds had the off set front end per Tedd Pierce. It must have been altered throughout the years. Thanks for the compliments. It was a tough few months

there was a small section on the top of the hood that had to be repaired when i fixed the glass up, there was a small section cut out for what ever reason some body did. but the top of the hood over the motor was intact and was not changed, just repaired.

I've seen it. No 3D. Stickers. Redone.....altered and hats off to you and everyone involved to do the best job you could to recreate the glass. You did the best you could with what you had.

Carbs on, test run done in the garage it's time to hit the snow, test her out a bit. No glass, that had to be sent to the local paint shop. Won't be done until January 17. Yikes it's getting close. She was alive again after several years on the shelf, parts scattered in my storage area gathering dust, (hoarding didn't seem a bad idea at this point) I rode a sled that I dreamed about and just spent countless hours in the shop basically following the footsteps of of Gene and Tedd only 41 years later and it took me 10 times as long. Thanks for all that read this tread. It's been a pleasure to show off my build. I don't attend too many shows so I thought to show it to the Rupp community that did not attend Waconia or would like to see a little bit more of the sled. It's snowing here today it's time to go for a ride, yes on a 650 3RD Dimension. THANKS Ed

Great post and a beautiful sled! Comments were made Sunday to the effect of; "If Mickey had stayed with it, imagine what we would see today"... I think you helped answer that question. The ingenuity and craftsmanship that went into building that sled is a living testament to the Rupp legacy. The old man himself would be proud of that sled, "keep it ruUP"!

If Mickey Rupp was still in charge in 1974 he would have let Gene and Tedd build a sno pro that would have been more competitive and may have changed the history of this great company and who knows they may still be around. If looks won races for Rupp in 74 they would have taken every race with Arctic Cat a close second. My opinion of course.

Wow, how long did it take you to totally build that? Thats a very impressive sled!! Did Ed Jr help with it or were you flying solo? I had to look back on my first pictures to see when I started. It took about 9 months, lucky for me I'm retired so every day I would venture out and work on the sled. I pretty much woke up in the morning thinking about my plans for the sled that day and go to bed thinking about what needs to be done the next day. The most stressful time was the pipes. Once I started making headway on my welding the stress went away. Ed Jr, did help out with the glass. Other than the painting it was all me fabricating, fitting, and changing what I didn't like or didn't look like the race pictures I have. Thanks for the comments. Ed
