I picked this sled up from Dave Schark at the A1 show in Nov 2006. He has been after me to restore it for him ever since he saw mine 2 years ago. I finally decided to do it. Ya gotta love those 800's. This was a real challenge it had some real issues with the bulkhead/steering(old war wounds), Comet clutch clearance issues(had to modify the frame and the clutch guard),track(had to stretch it a little more than an inch) final touch was the seat to finish the sled and you guessed it it didn't fit. This all took me longer than expected plus some of the sled was in boxes when I got it so a few times I ended up needing parts I didn't know were missing. I have to thank Bill Stull,Brandt, and Bob Sapp for helping me out with these. I did this sled the way Dave wanted it(comet clutch, mikuni carbs) it's not 100% correct but it's a much better performing sled this way. In the video that is the initial firing of the fresh motor. I needed to spin the track to check out the drive train and track so I had to rev it a little(sounds like maybe 5 grand befor the clutch kicks in) You'll have to excuse the quality of the video my wife shot that with a digital camera. Enjoy the pics guys I enjoyed the work. Joe Click on the picture below for The short Vidieo

Joe, great pictures and video. You and Glenda have done a real nice job documenting Dave restoration. Are you ready to do a 600? Or maybe a gt4?

Hey Greg, I'll make you a two for one deal. I'll restore two and you get to keep one-how about that! Seriously if ya give me a little time to do a couple of my own projects first i'd be glad to help you out. Especially the GT4 the opportunity to work on one of those is hard to turn down. I know, sell me the 600 and you got a deal! When I see you at the Karlin show try twisting my arm, just might work. Joe

Brandt, no biggie this year just an average 6 point. And as for the mirror finish that is a lot of wet sanding and repeated polishing. Between that and fixing what we could of the damage to the bulkhead I probably had more time in the tunnel than everything else combined.

Just an update on this sled. When I was at Eagle River for Vintage weekend I ran into Dave Schark and he said the sled is now on display in the Hall of Fame in St. Germain. If your over that way check it out, the new building is open and they have about 1/2 the sleds in it as they are waiting for racks to put the rest on. Joe
