Hey all you Rupp Tohatsu Guru's are there any differences in '71,'72,'73 400-440 Tohatsu point type ignition flywheels?? like from an American to a Nitro or Magnum or Yankee?? are all the advance mechanizems sprung or weighted the same? This maybe easily answered by looking at part numbers for flywheel assembly's for the various models, but I only have a '71 book.I'm building an S type engine with point ignition but don't have a flywheel and I'm guessing I'm going to find one off of a standard type engine before I find one from an S type engine, just want to make sure they are the same and no performance differece. Thanks to those that respond,Yankee

Anyone wonder how the same set-up can be right for different engines? Luke brought this up the other day, about Rupp using the same pipes on all the Xenoahs,250-440. Maybe the flywheel and stator from a TR440 is the same as a TR440S. Is the timing curve the same, too? The same as on a 71 440SR? I'll bet that racers tried different weight and spring combinations. Bob Urry showed me a trick with the points. Take the spring from an old set of points and add it to the new set. You have to bend the spring set a bit to weaken it. I think that the points were supposed to open with 15-16 ounces of pull with a fish scale. All this was meant to raise the RPM of the motor before the points started to bounce. Old school stuff. Racers now have programmable CDI's,launch control,etc...
