We have a 340C Sachs single going into a race sled. Having trouble getting a tach to work with it. These engines have 3 magnets and one counterweight. Some of the 340ss Singles have 4 magnets, others have 3 and a counterweight. 340C has same voltage as the 340ss engines but different watts.
Every tach we have tried fails to pick up with the 340C. Is it because 3 magnetic pole pulses cross it instead of 4? What did Rupp use with its 340C back in the day? Anyone have a manual they could look this up?
Anyone have a 3 magnet Sachs 340SS? How did you get a tach to work with this?

The only Tach we found that would work is the Tiny Tach. We have them on our 290ss,340ss Sachs we also had them on 297 and 340sa Sachs they all pretty close as far as reading we run 6500 to 6800 rpm.
