The final fit of the pipes is done. The way the 600 pipes were designed is ridiculous! All three took a different length header and each pipe was different to match it. So when I made the header pipes, I had to use the correct length of pipe and make it work from there. Here's the flanges. And wit da pipes.... Almost done with the fab work now. I picked up the lower panels and the gel coat to match from Jesse today and as soon as the resin gets here I can make the hood.

It will be at Ruppfest. I'm trying to get it done for Rogers City. If the hood is done by next weekend, I should be able to pull it off. I'm trying to find the carbs that I want on it, that's about the last thing I need.

Got the flanges and pipes painted today. I'm at the point where they can go on now. The gears, tensioner and chain are all done now. Everything was laying in there for fitting the pipes, I waited to tighten it all up until I was done. And I got the ignition plate finished up. Now I have a place to put the CDI box. I'm going to try and finish up everything but the hood and carbs this weekend. I'm taking the seat up to a friend's Mom to have her fit the seat. I've done one and it turned out alright. I'm going to leave this to a pro! I do need clutch parts before I can finish the left side. The bumpers have to come off and I'll have to loosen the steering support to get the clutch on. Just waiting for the spring and weights to get here.

Looking sweet Eddie. Need to get Blueleader to bring his to Rogers City and i'll bring my poor mans version, when's the last time you could see three 72 Mods on display at the same time? Bet it's been a while.

I'm tryin'. I'm not promising it will be there. To me, it doesn't look like you have a "poor man's" version of anything!
It will be nice to have some snow to ride around.

I had time to make the hood this week. I actually made two, I was up 'til 5 this morning. The first one didn't turn out quite the quality I was looking for. First off, this is some stinky, nasty, sticky stuff. This is what the mold looks like to start with. It's all cleaned and waxed with mold release wax. It's made just like the hood, only with a little bit different gel coat called tooling gel. I got a little crazy on this. For a show quality finish, you can't beat gel coat. So I wanted to do the center black and the outters in red so there was no painting. The mod hood we started with looked like it was done this way so I wanted to try it. It was a pain in took some extra time and clean-up, but still should be easier than painting it after it's done. Here it is masked off.

It looks like a LOT of work to do that hood. But I'll bet it'll look GREAT when you finish.

PM sent, rupp440... Here's the hood fresh out of the mold just trimmed up a bit. The two color gel didn't turn out too bad. It was a challenge getting the two colors to be ready at the same time. I don't think it's worth the hassle, I can paint it well within the time it took me to mess around doing the two different colors. The hood isn't just a direct copy from the two piece design. The sides of the air vent area are angled, not straight up and down like the plastic center. And the corners are smoothed out, not square. There's another area up by the gages that has a small lip removed. I guess these were changed so it was a more practical part to be made of fiberglass. Sharp corners are hard to make and straight up and down areas are hard to pull from the mold. The most noticeable difference is where the handlebar comes through. Maybe next week on the graphics! I have to cut out and fit the hood before I can finish it off. Also finished up a few more little things. Clutches are done, I've been waiting for the spring and arms to come so I could get the test bumpers back on to test fit the lowers. Pipes painted and done. A few more things to do, but it's getting close.

Cut out and fit the hood today and test fit the lowers. I made a fuel pump bracket and started on the hood hinge. I've decided to paint it, there is an imperfection in the finish of the hood I just couldn't live with. It's looking like this won't be making the trip to Rogers City...I tried! Going to be too much little stuff to finish up in a week.
