I've noticed,on a few of the Tohatsu's that I worked on,the sealant between the cases,is a silver color. Is that what Japan used to seal the original cases or has SOMEONE else been in these engines??? That has been the ONLY color I've seen. Just curious. Thanks.

Those cases came with no seal on them usually just put together. I use yamabond works excellent.

NO sealant?? Never would have thought that. Whenever I have to split the case,I put together with a good sealant. So far,I've only had to split the case on ONE Tohatsu engine.

The TR440-3 engine, has the silver sealant. I'm converting it from CDI,to POINTS!! I have MORE point setups, than I do CDI parts. Before I took out the stator,I put GOOD CDI stuff on it,from a running engine, still had NO spark.I'm thinking the stator was bad,I had one extra, but the 2 small coils, had torn wires on them.Soooo, out with the old,in with the new.I'll have my engine guru come over & get it running for me.

I have this engine converted to points.Put it together,it has SPARK! I'm sure the timing is way off, haven't tried to start it,everything on the mag/recoil side,is only finger tight.I'll have my engine guru come over & time it.He used a degree wheel on my last engine[TR340],because we had no specs for timing in inches or mm.

Gotta i find myself staring at your avatar lol... Ya i would say a silver sealant means someone has split it before pretty sure drrupp is correct or they used a very light coat. Which really is all you want people tend to use far too much sealant. I tore down a honda 350x once the guy used so much sealant it plugged up the oil ports and it seized the cam
