A great big congratulations goes out to Dan Westby for winning the Waconia Cup on his '72 Nitro 440. Dan pretty much blew the competition right off the drag strip. Nice job.

Bill, glad to hear that you got back on the track, It sort of sucks when the sled dan and i got together 3 years ago for the waconia cup had to race the same day as Mole lake, I wanted to run Mole lake but also wanted to see our creation shoot for the Waconia Cup, Hopefully next year it will work out, the problem is I just like to race vintage sleds, on the grass, on the ice strip and letting it all hang out turning left. Anyway, about dans nitro, I have never had a sled that was such a sucess with so little effort, I basicly whipped up a clutch combo and said try this, we took it out on the strip and consistantly turned low 7's in 500 feet, and have done nothing to it since. The other thing I'd like to mention is that Dan and I go way back, his dad sold rupps back in 72, my dad, Ronnie Romanowski and uncle, Larry Romanowski raced for Dan's dad on a whole fleet of 72 nitro's, those guys went on a terror in 72 usually cleaning house wherever they went. I first raced at age 12 in 1978 on my dad's 72 340 nitro now 30 years later we take one of those ol babies and win the waconia cup and had a great day racing between us we took 3 firsts 1 second and 1 third

Because of Paul I now have a new found respect for TrailTwisters. Paul "ran me over" in D Stock.

Thank's for the complement Dale, I think it was just one of those days where things just fell into place for us. And after thinking about what happened to you and your pit man I think that may have factored in on how things ended up. I hope you guys get past that bump in the road. Take care. Paul

Paul your sled was faster. I make no excuses. We could have raced all day and you would have won every time.
