So I go and look at whats suppose to be a 73 440 nitro, it looks really nice the guy spent some time on it, all the body panels are nice the tunnel is polished new windshield looks good right! I look at the skis and there tipped in, so I ask the guy what was going on with that. he explained that the original chassis was bent and he found a different tunnel and bulkhead and just transfered all the parts from one to the other, except the ski spindles off of the original nitro had a different angle to them then this bulkhead used. not only that but the bulkhead is aluminum, any body know which sled used an aluminum head? I would consider picking this sled up if I can find the right spindles

Sounds like you may have found yourself a sled worth buying. What do the lower panels look like? Are they bumped out? Is the lower part of the spindle toed out more than the nitro bulkhead you are used to seeing? If so, you may have a magnum chassis.
P.s. Rupp made many aluminum front bulkheads on their earlier sleds.

Rip, it looks to me like there not toe out as much as the nitro. and the body panels from the nitro bolted right on with no modifcations. I'm thinking it might be a old wide track. did any of them have an aluminum heads?

sticks, THE RUPP SHOP has the correct spindles for you. from when rupp started to 1973 all the bulkheads were aluminum. in 1973 the magnum used a aluminum bulkead wich was also wider and the nitro's and americans were steel with differnt angles on the bulkhead so they had differnt spindle angles and differnt spindles. it's hard saying what bulk head was used. i dont think they would have used a wide track becouse then the tunnel would be wider and your 73 nitro hood would be real naorrow looking on the sled. hope this helps. b.s.

72 340,400,440 NITROS HAD ALUM. BULKHEADS, BUT SPINDLES SHOULD BE THE SAME ANGLE, I'VE GOT 73 SPINDLES ON ALL MY 72'S

dan you got updated spindles for your 72 nitro. 73 nitros had steel bulkhead with differnt spindle angles. 73 nitro spindles will not work in 72 nitros. hope this helps.

Sticks,
Looks like you found yourself a nice sled. Looks like you have a front bulkhead from a 72 Nitro and spindles from a 73. How does she run?

It runs awesome, its the best starter I have, a couple of pulls and its running, The guy I got it from doesn't know what the the chassis is from, but he said he would get the right spindles for me. I really wanted his 72 nitro 400 but he won't part with it. (yet)
