First you pull the recoil, recoil cup, recoil housing, the flywheel,& then pull the stator.I will also put new crank seals in. Stator off & coils out. Now,the coil wires are cut,the blue & blue with yellow stripe. I also cut the plug wires, right where they come through case,by the jugs.Wires have to be cut to get everything out & moved.

These 2 black wires coming from stator, also need to be cut by the plug. These 2 wires, from stator, need to be lengthened & attached to the coils. These black wires, along with the blue wires, attach to coils. The black wires, then hook to ignition switch.

This is where the coils will finally be located!! It is out of the way & easy to get at,in case of failure. When the engine is back together & set in place, then the wiring can be finished, most wires will need to be lengthened!! This is a factory Sno-Jet coil mount I used when I put the Yamaha 396 in my Sprint 44.But it's mounted in the same place the Hirth coils will be mounted. I know the stuff I do isn't right,BUT I do it for ease of working on,when parts fail.

They can be moved anywhere.I put my coils up top, that way I can use short spark plug wires,BUT the other wires have to be made longer. On my 70-399,I have them mounted on plate, under the carb.I don't like that,so this summer I will move them up top, under the hood!!!!

Put new,DOUBLE lip crank seals in. Put the stator back in,made sure all wires were not rubbing on crank stub. Cleaned old paint off of recoil housing. Also cleaned up fan blades. Also cleaned old paint off the case.Waiting on the Yamaha guru to come over & clean points & time.

The Yamaha guru, woodchuck, came over & cleaned the points & timed it,timing was way off.Now I can finish putting it together & paint it & put on shelf.
