some of my picture hosting sites, mainly photobucket plus a few others.Photobucket wants to start charging $400 a year,to keep pictures on their site, screw them. So,most of my early pictures I posted here, were from photobucket & most are now gone. So,most of my early threads, won't have much meaning, with the pics gone. Will eventually be closing most of my sled accounts down too. I'm getting less excited about the vintage craze & will fade away, have been slowly fading away, with less participation on the sled sites. This has just about run full circle with me.I'll finish up the few sleds I have left, then put a few up for sale & keep 3-4 sleds that have sentimental value to me.Priorites are changing now & time to do other things with my life. All I can say,its been a fun ride.Remember to continue having fun, thats what it is all about.Later.

Sorry to hear that Rupplover. Has been a pleasure to do business with you several times over the years, and you were always a straight shooter on info and quality. It is sad to see participation in the hobby dwindling as you have observed but I think your correct. We, older guys are getting older and the younger crowd don't seem to share the excitement we have had about the vintage stuff. path finder

"Winding down" isn't such a bad thing but it is good to know you will hang on to a few of your treasures as once bitten by the vintage bug, you will always have a bit of it in you!
I agree with Pathfinder that the younger crowd doesn't share the excitement that we do. With each passing year it seems good sleds/parts are getting harder to find and the prices are getting prohibitive for a lot of people. They didn't grow up on these sleds and can't possibly get the rush of re-living those memories. Bundling up on a cold day with whatever warm clothes you had, pulling and pulling to get them started in sub-zero temperatures, wrenching on them along the trail, the smell of the two-cycle engines and holding on for your life... what a ride!
I thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us over the past several years but know that when you come across a gem like that R295 that the excitement will be re-kindled. The mind will start racing all over again with the possibilities of a new adventure on a vintage sled...

So what i'm hearing is this hobby will soon come to it's demise. I can see some of what your saying but I don't think it will end with us. Lets see what the rest of you are thinking?

I'm pretty much done with the vintage stuff also. Over the last couple years i've sold off all my sleds except the two we use as riders in the vintage rides. I do have a couple projects to tinker around with but they are very low on the priority list. Looks like we will be moving soon so all the old parts and stuff I have laying around will go. I'm not taking it with me unless I need it for my couple projects. So I guess you could say I am still involved but I am not looking for anything or planning to attend anything vintage related. I have other things I would rather do.

as for myself , I'm not going anywhere. Will I be selling a few sleds? Yup. Too make room for the stuff I haven't restored yet. I just bought a super rough 1971 Rupp Magnum 400. I won't be starting to restore the sled for a least a year. but I will be looking for almost any part for it. So if your cutting way back or leaving the hobby please keep me in mind if you have any useable parts for the Magnum. Thanks !
Mark

I have a 400S motor plus a pair of NOS 440S cylinders with pistons and an NOS crank and case and a 71 Magnum Ram Horn exhaust I would be willing to part with but I won't give it away. I would include another 71 motor you can remove the heads flywheel/ignition and fan shroud from to build the 440S so you would end up with a 400S, basically NOS 440S and exhaust for $1000. I think that's fair. Joe

Dan, Never been to Princeton. I'm not hunting for part's. If I do need any for a project I know where I can find them if I don't have it.

I have one good 400s cylinder and I have pitons and rings and one good head. I'm in no hurry but... Anyhow let me kick it around in my head. thanks for giving me the headsup on your parts! Mark

Mark, The 400S I picked up at a swap with the intention of putting the 440S parts into but never got around to it. It does roll over but I do not know condition of internals. Everything I mentioned in for the 71 motors.

I Still plan on swapping at a few Swap meet's yet. Princeton & Wacoina for sure. I have some Rupp parts left but I am not picking up anymore Rupp inventory. I am concentrating on the Track Drives & Idler wheels for the Vintage sleds as many brands as I think are worth doing. I don't see the hobby going to the wayside. The are not as many guy's or Gal's restoring sleds like there was 10-15 Years ago but the is a lot more people putting together riders from what I have been seeing. I still have a few Rupp's that I built for show sleds and have 1 or 2 more I want to build yet. I was thinking about totally getting out of it but I think it gets into your blood or it's just a plain old addiction!!!!
I will also be at the National Show in June of 2018..

I agree with Rick a lot of people have gone to fixing up riders instead of just show sleds. I have seen a big decline in the number of sleds at shows. I do think the value of this stuff will start to fall off as the older guys stop collecting. the younger generation doesn't seem to be to interested in it. I know a hand full of guys who are content with what they have now and are not buying anything else. I am not one of them! Hey Rick are these sleds your thinking of restoring still the ones we talked about years ago?? Haha

Yes they are Dan.. I really don't know if I will ever get at them either... I don't think I can even pick up that Kohler triple with out spending the next week on the floor flat on my back. So that one probably not get done.
