Hey guys, Have a nice find here and look to make it my next project. This sled had a little family history as was the first sled my brother had that could do 90 mph. Got Parked behind the shed 30 years ago and hasn't been touched. I plan to do a full restoration in the coming years. My question is how can I tell if this is a 1976 or a 1977 440 Nitro? I know the hood is from a 1976 but I am confused by the electronics box on the side above the pull cord. Of all the pictures I've seen that is only on the 1977's? I'd like to redo it pretty close to original so trying to find out how to do the hood. My dad had dumped oil down it a few times through the years so hoping the motor is not locked up. Rough shape but should make for a good sled when finished! Thanks for the help!

You look to have a 77. Hoods are the same with just different paint scheme and decals. You have a 77 engine. The circuit board is in the 77 location. Wood grain instrument cluster is 77 and handlebars are 77.

What years had the water fill/cap assy up thru the console on the left side? Is the head style fill assy 440 only and 77 only?

The 76 sleds had it through the dash. That was where the expansion tank was. The early plastic tanks were prone to leaking so there was an update available for it. The 78 + 79 Nitros had the same fill cap.
