Back in 2013,I sold a package deal of 4-5 sleds to a friend, who wanted them & was going to get them in the snow.Fast forward to the fall of 2017,he still had not done anything with them. So,I traded some parts that he needed & got them back, minus the engines.I still have extra engines,so I put them in,got them running & sold them as runners, all but one.Last week, when it was 40+ degrees ONE day,I went out in back, cleaned all the junk out of it & brought it up to the shop.I started checking it over, still in pretty decent shape,so I looked at my engines & pulled a Sachs SA280 off the shelf. It has new crank seals, gaskets, bearings etc,but it lacked spark.Had a Scorpion guy come over,to see if we could get spark in it.The original German points were SHOT,so an NOS set was put in.Guess what, still NO spark. As we looked at the stator plate,we noticed that the coil looked kinda of funky.I got the wire off the condensor, loosened the coil & took it out.Looked the coil over & noticed some blue silicone on it.Scraped it off, there was a hole in the coil, like it shorted out at some time.Put a different coil in,retimed it.Never tried to start it,which was a big mistake. So this engine is ear-marked for a 70 Sprint 28. Here is the engine.Sled is inside, the winter has been a bust,so I guess I can work on it,as time permits.

Making a flange for my header pipe, bolts to muffler. Finished flange, welded to my stub pipe. Mounted on muffler. Also had to move muffler/muffler bracket,1" away from the engine to get the stinger pipe to exit through foot rest hole.

This piece of wire,is the template I used for forming the header pipe I need to make.It worked ok,got it real close. Measuring the pipe for fit. Fitting the pipe. The finished pipe, welded, cleaned, painted & installed.

I'm kinda falling for this sled. This next winter,I will make it my main sled.No one wants to buy it,SO I'll ride it.There is just something about a Sachs single................................................ I've got a track put aside for it,just in case.It needs a seat, but I think I can find something to put on it.

I bought a bunch of windshield blanks, last year.I used one today.I used a partial face plate from a 1970 & a 1971,had to drill 2 different holes on the 71, to line up with hood holes on the 70.It will be just fine. I won't put any trim on this shield, don't want to get too much money tied up in it.Have some trimming to do on the aluminum face plate. NOTE: The face plate for a 1970 NT,is different than a 71 NT & WT. A shield off a NT 71,will also fit the 71 WT. Also found out, that it is easier to start in the center hole of windshield & work one way or the other. I drilled an 1/8" pilot hole, then a 3/16"s hole.Worked like a champ.
