I have a Rupp 634 w/t sled and recently I went out in the barn and was moving it to get ready for a ride when I noticed white chunks of plastic laying underneath the rear of the sled. A quick look showed that the rear sprockets are completely coming apart, not surprising for plastic that is over 50 years old. I had to replace the drive sprockets a few years ago and at the time I thought the rears were in good enough condition, but in hindsight I should have taken the opportunity to replace them, live and learn I guess. My question is what is the best way to take the rear idler axle off so I can get to the sprockets? Do I need to remove the whole track, or can I simply unbolt that rear axle? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated, I don't have a lot of experience with snowmobiles and would like to get this fixed and back out on the snow, thank you.

Loosen the track and drop and remove rear axle.
